ST Racing is heading for IMSA and the VP Racing Sportscar Challenge in 2025.
By: ST Racing
December 17, 2024

ST Racing is pleased to announce that team co-owner Samantha Tan will make her IMSA debut, competing in the full season of the new GTDX class of the VP Racing Sportscar Challenge.

BMW North America brand ambassador Samantha Tan will take part in her first full solo campaign with ST Racing’s BMW M4 GT3 in the Sportscar Challenge, the official support series of the IMSA SportsCar Championship.

Since 2022, ST Racing has raced with the BMW M4 GT3, securing the brand’s very first overall victory with the M4 GT3. In the GT World Challenge America series, the team took three class wins and seven further podiums in 2024 en-route to an incredibly close runners-up spot in the GTWC PRO/AM Driver and Team standings. Prior to this, ST Racing secured the GT4 America West Pro-Am Cup in 2019 and the GT4 SprintX Silver Teams’ title in 2020. In 2021, ST Racing was also crowned the Overall GT Teams’ champion in the European endurance 24H SERIES in the team’s first season competing in Europe.

This championship-winning experience, as well as expansive knowledge of the BMW M4 and full confidence in the team around her, has inspired Samantha to take on one of her toughest challenges to-date – her first solo GT3 campaign – in 2025.

Samantha Tan, driver / team co-owner: “I’m thrilled to announce my step into IMSA for 2025, one of the most competitive and prestigious racing series in North America. My first full GT3 season this year was incredibly rewarding, pushing me to maximize every moment on and off the track. I’m eager to take on the challenge of a new multi-class format with LMP3, GT3, and GT4 cars, continuing to sharpen my skills against some of the best in the sport. I’m entering this season with a fire in my heart and my sights set firmly on the VP Challenge championship title.”

Kenneth Tan, team co-owner: “Our team has been interested to compete in IMSA since 2022 but circumstances were not ideal for an entry. We are finally taking that step and IMSA’s VP Racing Sportscar Challenge is a great way for us to get our feet wet into a new world called IMSA. We had a small taste when Samantha ran in the IMSA-officiated Ferrari Challenge a couple of years ago but that is not the same. This definitely will be a new challenge for our team and we are very much looking forward to it as that is what makes racing so exciting for us. Can’t wait to be at Daytona next month!”

For its first season including GT3 competitors, the six-round, 12-race VP Racing Sportscar Challenge season starts with the ‘Roar before the Rolex 24’ at the Daytona International Speedway on 17-19 January. This will mark Samantha Tan Racing’s first official participation in the program leading up to the famous Rolex 24 at Daytona.

Round two of the season takes place at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas on 28 February to 1 March. One of its more lucrative circuits, ST Racing has previously taken half a dozen class wins across three different series at COTA. The weekend will similarly mark ST Racing’s first program during an official NASCAR Cup Series weekend.

Following round three at Mid-Ohio on 6-8 June, ST Racing is set to make its return to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on 11-13 July. This will be the team’s first race in Canada since 2017, when they competed in the Pirelli World Challenge series with a BMW M235iR.

The 2025 season wraps up with two further rounds at the Virginia International Raceway and Road Atlanta on 22-24 August and 8-11 October respectively.

Robert Wickens will get behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Corvette GT3.R in the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship.
By: DXDT Racing
November 25, 2024

Statesville, North Carolina - DXDT Racing is proud to announce that Robert Wickens will join the team for the sprint rounds of the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship, beginning at the Long Beach Grand Prix in April. Wickens, who drives using hand controls following an accident in 2018, will be the only driver on the grid using hand controls in WeatherTech competition.

The 35-year-old Wickens will contest the five sprint rounds of the WeatherTech Championship in DXDT’s No. 36 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R that is specially equipped with a new electronic hand-brake control system from Bosch. His co-driver will be announced in due course.

Wickens’ journey to the driver’s seat of the DXDT Corvette has been anything but straightforward. The Toronto-born driver began his career in single-seater racing and won his first international championship in 2011, taking the Formula Renault 3.5 title ahead of a stacked field that included Daniel Ricciardo, Jean-Eric Vergne, Brendon Hartley, and Alexander Rossi. Wickens entered the world of GT racing in 2012 when he competed as part of the Mercedes-AMG factory program in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) championship.

During his time in Germany, he scored six wins and 15 podiums in one of the most competitive series in the world, which put him on the radar for a move back to North America.

Competing in the IndyCar Series with Schmidt Peterson Motorsports in 2018, Wickens made an immediate impression, taking pole in his debut race and second place in just the second race of the season. He earned three more podiums, but his impressive debut season was brought to a sudden halt after a violent crash at Pocono that sent Wickens to the hospital with a host of injuries, including a spinal cord injury that left him paraplegic.

Three years after his accident, Wickens was back in the cockpit, using a hand-control system to drive a Hyundai Elantra N TCR car in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge series. He won at Watkins Glen and Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in 2022, which marked his return to victory lane for the first time since his accident. The following season, he and co-driver Harry Gottsacker earned seven podiums en route to the IMPC TCR championship, a first in sports cars for Wickens. Now, after a third-place championship finish in 2024, he is ready to take the next step in his career.

Robert Wickens: “This is the opportunity I have been seeking for quite a while now, and it wouldn’t be possible without the support from David Askew at DXDT, Bosch and General Motors. My goal since returning to racing was to race in the IMSA WeatherTech Series, so to tick that box with a limited schedule in 2025 is a huge step in achieving my goals. It was never going to be an easy task, but when great minds put their heads together anything is possible.”

David Askew, DXDT Racing Team Owner: “It’s always great when you can add a driver of Robert’s caliber to the team. He is a top driver and has shown through drive and resilience that nothing is out of reach, evidenced by his race wins and championship titles in TCR. It’s certainly going to be a new challenge for all of us, but it’s one I’m so excited to take on. I know with all the work by us, Bosch, GM, and Pratt Miller this offseason, we’re in a good position to hit the ground running in Long Beach.”

Mark Stielow, Director, GM Motorsports Competition Programs: "We are proud to be part of this effort alongside DXDT Racing, Pratt Miller, Bosch and of course Robert Wickens. For many years, Corvette Racing and Bosch have worked together to drive innovation in motorsports, most notably through the Collision Avoidance System that is now common in sports car paddocks around the world. It means a tremendous amount for Robert and Bosch to choose the Corvette Z06 GT3.R and DXDT Racing as they achieve their goal of making racing more inclusive to all competitors around the world, no matter the series or classification.”

Robert Wickens on X: "This is what I’ve been pushing for since day 1 of my recovery. I’m excited to announce that I am entering the @IMSA Weather Tech Series in the GTD class with @DXDTRacing. None of this would have been possible without the support of the team, Bosch, GM, and so many more. https://t.co/7Ou8SM9zfC" / X

Kyle Marcelli returns to Wayne Taylor Racing for the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
By: Wayne Taylor Racing
December 12, 2024

Wayne Taylor Racing (WTR) announced today their driver lineup for the team’s Grand Touring Daytona (GTD) entry for the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season will mark WTR’s second season competing full time in the GTD class after earning a pole position and four top 10 finishes, including a fifth-place result at Petit Le Mans, in 2024. Since 2015, WTR and Lamborghini Squadra Corse’s partnership spans nearly a decade as WTR has won 14 championships titles in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America (LSTNA) championship and the team plans to continue fielding a stable of cars for the 2025 season.

Danny Formal will return to the No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 full season lineup and will be joined by Trent Hindman who returns to WTR after previously competing with the team in the 2017 Lamborghini Super Trofeo series. Graham Doyle will once again compete with Formal and Hindman as the team’s IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup (IMEC) co-driver and for the five endurance events throughout 2025. Rounding out the driver lineup is veteran WTR driver and stalwart, Kyle Marcelli, who will join the No. 45 team for the ‘round the clock endurance classic, the Rolex 24 at DAYTONA.

“I’m excited to be back in GTD with DEX and Lamborghini,” said Team Owner Wayne Taylor. “We have a great line up this year. Danny is back and stronger than ever. Trent has rejoined our WTR family which is great as we had such success together back in 2017 in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo series. Graham will be running with us in the five IMEC endurance events again and keeps stepping things up as he gains more and more experience. And we are delighted to have Kyle back, who is part of our WTR family. It is going to be a great season with DEX and Lamborghini.”

“Automobili Lamborghini is very excited to enter the sophomore year of our partnership with Wayne Taylor Racing in GTD,” said Eriks Skirmants, Senior Manager Motorsport for Automobili Lamborghini America. “The No. 45 car had a strong debut season and with the highly professional and motivated WTR team, it has all of the elements to be a championship contender.  Always a great partner in developing talent through their Super Trofeo program, WTR has again drafted exemplary graduates for the GTD program.  Welcoming Trent Hindman back into a Lamborghini seat was a high priority we all shared.  The 2025 WTR No. 45 GTD program is a great step forward in the long-term mutual vision of program growth and connection to Automobili Lamborghini driver programs.”

In 2024, Danny Formal awarded the team their first sprint race GTD pole position at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca and the only IMSA pole position for Lamborghini Squadra Corse’s GTD entries on the season. Throughout 2024, Formal drew “double duty” competing with both the GTD class as well as in Lamborghini Super Trofeo PRO class championship. Formal will look to bring his familiarity to the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 and his impressive pace as the team enters their second full season of GTD competition.

As the co-driver in the No. 45 Lamborghini, American-racer Trent Hindman is welcomed back to the WTR family for the first time in seven years. Hindman and WTR’s success together includes an overall Lamborghini Super Trofeo World Finals Champion title at Imola, Italy, and the 2017 LSTNA PRO|AM Drivers’ Championship title. Since his days racing in Super Trofeo, Hindman has made a name for himself competing in IMSA and the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge series. Notable achievements to Hindman’s racing portfolio include the IMSA GTD Championship title in 2019 and the IMSA GTD Endurance Cup Championship in 2021. In 2022, Hindman was named the GS Champion in Michelin Pilot Challenge and Vice-Champion honors in 2023. Hindman’s expertise in GTD racing will be a key factor as he pairs up Formal for the 2025 season.

Graham Doyle now enters his sophomore season of competing on IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GTD grid as the team’s IMEC co-driver. Like his teammate, Formal, Doyle completed “double duty” throughout 2024 in the LSTNA AM class highlighted by a podium-finish at Watkins Glen International. As the 2024 season progressed on, Doyle consistently improved in experience, pace and confidence behind the wheel and will look to capitalize on that success entering 2025.

Kyle Marcelli completes the driver lineup for the No. 45 DEX Lamborghini team as the fourth co-driver to contest in the 24- hour endurance kickstart to the season at the Rolex 24 at DAYTONA. Marcelli returns to WTR and the No. 45 Lamborghini with multiple years of sportscar racing experience, most recently competing full season in the GTD class in 2024 alongside Formal and Doyle. The 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season and the Rolex 24 at DAYTONA will mark the fifth- consecutive year competing with WTR including capturing back-to-back Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America PRO Class Championships in 2021 and 2022 with teammate Formal.

The No. 45 DEX Lamborghini GTD team will kick off the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with the annual three days of testing sessions at the Roar Before the Rolex 24 on January 17th-19th, 2025. The team will then shift to full focus on the Rolex 24 at DAYTONA with qualifying returning to race weekend on Thursday, January 23rd. The green flag for the 63rd Running of the Rolex 24 at DAYTONA will fly on Saturday, January 25th.

Danny Formal, Full Season Co-Driver
“2025 is starting already and fast approaching. It’s going to be our second season with the GTD program. I’ll have a new teammate in Trent Hindman and have heard great things about him from the WTR family as well as sharing the car with Graham Doyle and Kyle Marcelli again. I’m super excited to get going. We had a fantastic first season with an amazing top five to end the season at Road Atlanta. We got our first pole position as a team in GTD, we were the only Lamborghini to get a pole position all season long. We led some laps at a lot of the tracks we went to. In the second season, our sophomore season, it’s going to be a great one - I can already tell. The WTR team is preparing, the team knows the car better and as a driver I know the car better. I’m super excited to get started and super grateful for this opportunity. Excited to get to Daytona with a new schedule, moving the qualifying to race weekend is really awesome, I like the change! Super excited and ready to get going on 2025 with WTR.”

Trent Hindman, Full Season Co-Driver
“For me, this a long-awaited reunion with a team I’ve shared success with in the past. Although a different Lamborghini Huracán platform, championship series, and group of teammates, I look forward to finding success again with the same core group that has developed so much over the past seven years since we last worked together. The long-standing partnership between Wayne Taylor Racing and Lamborghini has now become a staple of the IMSA paddock, and I am excited to now play a role towards their growth into GTD championship contenders. Already, I’m very grateful to Danny, Graham, and the WTR engineering staff for welcoming me with open arms. Much of the core group on the GTD program are the same personnel that won the 2017 Super Trofeo NA Pro and World Final titles, which makes the transition back to the team very exciting for me. Danny and I crossed paths a bit while racing karts, where he was and still is a dominant driver, and tracking Graham’s progress throughout 2024 has been confidence inspiring to say the least. I’m very much looking forward to working with these guys and pushing each other towards becoming consistent GTD race winners.”

Graham Doyle, IMEC Co-Driver
“Coming back for my second season in the No. 45 DEX Lamborghini GT3 EVO2, I’m excited for the challenges ahead. Working with Wayne Taylor Racing’s strong legacy and continuing to push the limits with myself and my teammates, I look forward to an exciting 2025 building on the solid foundation we created in 2024 in our first year of GT3 racing. Not only am I excited to continue this passion and move forward, I’m excited to work closely with Lamborghini and Wayne Taylor Racing to continue to grow as a driver and as a person completely. I look forward to enhancing my own confidence and enhancing performance in the car and in the team. Working with my two teammates in Danny and Trent, who share this vision, is one of the highlights of being part of this team. The collaboration between all three of us fosters a real growth opportunity and to strive to find excellence. We’re very excited to get the Rolex started and get the 2025 season moving ahead.”

Kyle Marcelli, Rolex 24 at DAYTONA Co-Driver
“I’m taking on a different role within the team for the 2025 season. At the moment, just doing the Rolex 24 at Daytona. Nonetheless, the focus and the task remains the same. I look forward to the addition of the torque sensor to the GTD category, I’m hopeful this data point will improve the quality and competition across the many manufacturs involved in GT3 racing in IMSA. The program has all the tools and resources needed; it’s just a matter of checking all the boxes. We were missing some speed throughout the first three quarters of the 2024 season, but we improved in the last two rounds. I think that learning and momentum will carry immediately into the 2025 season, and I’m confident the No. 45 should challenge for podium at each event. Consistency is one of the many keys to success. The brand loyalty between WTR and Lamborghini is rich and collectively both sides are equally as motivated to win races in 2025.Danny and I have done this a lot over the past four years and it’s made us both better drivers. Graham has been a sponge consuming so much information and experience in his rookie season, I think you will see a lot of confidence and speed out of him in 2025. Trent is a proven quantity and I’m sure will be a plug-and-play to the program. We’ve been teammates and competitors over the years and there’s a strong mutual respect. Overall, I think we are bringing a strong line-up to Daytona 24 hour and the rest of the season.”
