Wayne Taylor Racing (WTR) announced today their driver lineup for the team’s Grand Touring Daytona (GTD) entry for the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season will mark WTR’s second season competing full time in the GTD class after earning a pole position and four top 10 finishes, including a fifth-place result at Petit Le Mans, in 2024. Since 2015, WTR and Lamborghini Squadra Corse’s partnership spans nearly a decade as WTR has won 14 championships titles in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America (LSTNA) championship and the team plans to continue fielding a stable of cars for the 2025 season.

 

Danny Formal will return to the No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 full season lineup and will be joined by Trent Hindman who returns to WTR after previously competing with the team in the 2017 Lamborghini Super Trofeo series. Graham Doyle will once again compete with Formal and Hindman as the team’s IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup (IMEC) co-driver and for the five endurance events throughout 2025. Rounding out the driver lineup is veteran WTR driver and stalwart, Kyle Marcelli, who will join the No. 45 team for the ‘round the clock endurance classic, the Rolex 24 at DAYTONA.

In 2024, Danny Formal awarded the team their first sprint race GTD pole position at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca and the only IMSA pole position for Lamborghini Squadra Corse’s GTD entries on the season. Throughout 2024, Formal drew “double duty” competing with both the GTD class as well as in Lamborghini Super Trofeo PRO class championship. Formal will look to bring his familiarity to the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 and his impressive pace as the team enters their second full season of GTD competition.

 

As the co-driver in the No. 45 Lamborghini, American-racer Trent Hindman is welcomed back to the WTR family for the first time in seven years. Hindman and WTR’s success together includes an overall Lamborghini Super Trofeo World Finals Champion title at Imola, Italy, and the 2017 LSTNA PRO|AM Drivers’ Championship title. Since his days racing in Super Trofeo, Hindman has made a name for himself competing in IMSA and the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge series. Notable achievements to Hindman’s racing portfolio include the IMSA GTD Championship title in 2019 and the IMSA GTD Endurance Cup Championship in 2021. In 2022, Hindman was named the GS Champion in Michelin Pilot Challenge and Vice-Champion honors in 2023. Hindman’s expertise in GTD racing will be a key factor as he pairs up Formal for the 2025 season.

 

Graham Doyle now enters his sophomore season of competing on IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GTD grid as the team’s IMEC co-driver. Like his teammate, Formal, Doyle completed “double duty” throughout 2024 in the LSTNA AM class highlighted by a podium-finish at Watkins Glen International. As the 2024 season progressed on, Doyle consistently improved in experience, pace and confidence behind the wheel and will look to capitalize on that success entering 2025.

 

Kyle Marcelli completes the driver lineup for the No. 45 DEX Lamborghini team as the fourth co-driver to contest in the 24- hour endurance kickstart to the season at the Rolex 24 at DAYTONA. Marcelli returns to WTR and the No. 45 Lamborghini with multiple years of sportscar racing experience, most recently competing full season in the GTD class in 2024 alongside Formal and Doyle. The 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season and the Rolex 24 at DAYTONA will mark the fifth- consecutive year competing with WTR including capturing back-to-back Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America PRO Class Championships in 2021 and 2022 with teammate Formal.

 

The No. 45 DEX Lamborghini GTD team will kick off the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with the annual three days of testing sessions at the Roar Before the Rolex 24 on January 17th-19th, 2025. The team will then shift to full focus on the Rolex 24 at DAYTONA with qualifying returning to race weekend on Thursday, January 23rd. The green flag for the 63rd Running of the Rolex 24 at DAYTONA will fly on Saturday, January 25th.

I’ll have a new teammate in Trent Hindman and have heard great things about him from the WTR family as well as sharing the car with Graham Doyle and Kyle Marcelli again. I’m super excited to get going. We had a fantastic first season with an amazing top five to end the season at Road Atlanta. We got our first pole position as a team in GTD, we were the only Lamborghini to get a pole position all season long. We led some laps at a lot of the tracks we went to. In the second season, our sophomore season, it’s going to be a great one - I can already tell. The WTR team is preparing, the team knows the car better and as a driver I know the car better. I’m super excited to get started and super grateful for this opportunity. Excited to get to Daytona with a new schedule, moving the qualifying to race weekend is really awesome, I like the change! Super excited and ready to get going on 2025 with WTR.”

Although a different Lamborghini Huracán platform, championship series, and group of teammates, I look forward to finding success again with the same core group that has developed so much over the past seven years since we last worked together. Much of the core group on the GTD program are the same personnel that won the 2017 Super Trofeo NA Pro and World Final titles, which makes the transition back to the team very exciting for me. Danny and I crossed paths a bit while racing karts, where he was and still is a dominant driver, and tracking Graham’s progress throughout 2024 has been confidence inspiring to say the least. I’m very much looking forward to working with these guys and pushing each other towards becoming consistent GTD race winners.”

“I’m taking on a different role within the team for the 2025 season. At the moment, just doing the Rolex 24 at Daytona. Nonetheless, the focus and the task remains the same. I look forward to the addition of the torque sensor to the GTD category, I’m hopeful this data point will improve the quality and competition across the many manufacturs involved in GT3 racing in IMSA. The program has all the tools and resources needed; it’s just a matter of checking all the boxes. We were missing some speed throughout the first three quarters of the 2024 season, but we improved in the last two rounds. I think that learning and momentum will carry immediately into the 2025 season, and I’m confident the No. 45 should challenge for podium at each event. Consistency is one of the many keys to success. The brand loyalty between WTR and Lamborghini is rich and collectively both sides are equally as motivated to win races in 2025.Danny and I have done this a lot over the past four years and it’s made us both better drivers. Graham has been a sponge consuming so much information and experience in his rookie season, I think you will see a lot of confidence and speed out of him in 2025. Trent is a proven quantity and I’m sure will be a plug-and-play to the program. We’ve been teammates and competitors over the years and there’s a strong mutual respect. Overall, I think we are bringing a strong line-up to Daytona 24 hour and the rest of the season.”
