Milverton, Ontario – It was a busy weekend for Kyle Steckly and his team, racing at both Delaware Speedway and Flamboro Speedway.

Kyle and his No. 22 APC Auto Parts / Qwick Wick Chevrolet Camaro raced at Delaware Speedway on Friday night with the Catalys Lubricants Pro Late Models. Kyle was the fastest in practice and finished 1st in his 10-lap heat race. Starting 5th in the 35-lap feature, Kyle made his way up through the field and ran 2nd for most of the night before finishing 3rd.

On Saturday Kyle and his team headed to Flamboro Speedway for the APC United Late Model Series LRR 100. Kyle was 3rd fastest in practice and won the Epic Race Wear Pole Award for finishing 1st in qualifying. Starting 4th in the 100-lap race, Kyle quickly made his way to the front and held the leader position for 75 laps. With a late race caution and a restart, Kyle got shuffled back to 4th, but battled back for a 2nd place finish.

"We had a great weekend with our APC Auto Parts / CANUSA / Qwick Wick No. 22 showing a lot of speed at both Delaware Speedway and Flamboro Speedway! We got a heat win and finished 3rd at Delaware. We also had a great car at Flamboro, qualifying on the pole and being 0.002 seconds off a new track record. We had the lead for 75 laps but couldn’t quite hold on for the win at the end and finished 2nd but the speed we showed was awesome! I am really proud of all the hard work from my team the past couple of weeks with two back to back double header weekends. Now we have a couple of weeks off before round three of the APC United Late Model tour at Peterborough,” Kyle said.

Milverton, Ontario – Kyle Steckly has a busy weekend ahead of him with plans of racing at both Delaware Speedway and Flamboro Speedway.

First Kyle and his team will be heading to Delaware Speedway on Friday, May 27th for The Canadian Motorsports Hall Of Fame Night. Spectator gates will open at 7:00 p.m. and racing will begin at 7:45 p.m.. The 70-lap feature is sure to be an action-packed race with a highly competitive 25-car lineup.

Then on Saturday, May 28th Kyle and his No. 22 APC Auto Parts / CANUSA / Qwick Wick Chevrolet Camaro will head to Flamboro Speedway in Hamilton. The main gates will open at 5:00 p.m. and racing will begin at 6:30 p.m. with twin 25-lap features.

"I’m really excited to get back to Delaware Speedway for a night full of tough competition. I think we will have a really good car in the long run and hopefully we can be up front in the end. I haven’t been back to Flamboro yet this season, so it will be fun to race there again with all of the guys I ran with weekly last year. It will also be good practice for next weekend’s APC United Late Model Series race at Flamboro,” Kyle said.

Milverton, Ontario – Kyle Steckly has another busy weekend ahead of him with plans of racing at both Delaware Speedway and Flamboro Speedway.

Kyle and his No. 22 APC Auto Parts / Qwick Wick Chevrolet Camaro will be heading to Delaware Speedway on Friday, June 3rd to race with the Catalys Lubricants Pro Late Models. Spectator gates will open at 6:00 p.m. and racing will begin at 7:35 p.m.. Finishing 2nd last weekend at Delaware Speedway, Kyle is hoping for a first place finish in this week's 35-lap feature.

On Saturday, June 4th Kyle and his team will head to Flamboro Speedway for the APC United Late Model Series LRR 100. The spectator gates will open at 4:00 p.m. and qualifying will begin at 6:00 p.m.. The LRR 100 will go green at 8:00 p.m.. Kyle won the LRR 100 in 2021 and is looking to claim the victory again.

"I’m really looking forward to the second race of the APC United Late Model tour this Saturday at Flamboro Speedway. I don't think our finish at Sunset in the season opener truly showed the speed our APC Auto Parts / CANUSA / Qwick Wick No. 22 had, so I’m really excited to be back at my home track this weekend for the LRR 100. We were able to pick up the win in the LRR 100 last year so hopefully we can follow that up with a good run, it definitely won’t be easy with some very competitive drivers like JR Fitzpatrick and Rick Spencer Walt in the field, but I’m confident in my car and crew to be in contention for the win," Kyle said.

Even before his dominant performance in the season opener at Sunset Speedway, Marc-Antoine Camirand (No. 96 GM Paillé Chevrolet) would have entered the eBay Motors 200 as one of the favorites to capture the checkered flag.

A quick look at Camirand’s history at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) shows why – a win and three runner-up finishes in the last six races there. His victory came in the most recent race at the historic track, last September’s Clarington 200. Camirand passed Alex Tagliani (No. 18 Viagra/St Hubert Chevrolet) with five laps to go to claim his first road course win.

“I’m really pumped to go there,” Camirand said. “I like (CTMP), it’s my kind of circuit – I’m more of a road course guy.”

Camirand’s preference for road courses goes back to the formative years of his career. He won the 1997 Formula 1600 championship at age 18, becoming the youngest champion in the series. But as he showed Saturday night in leading a career-high 203 laps, his oval track performance has come to equal his road course prowess.

What made that race even more impressive was the fact he was competing with a brand-new team in a brand-new car. In the off-season, Camirand moved from 22 Racing to newly created GM Paillé Racing with cars prepared from his own new Camirand Performance shop.

“I don't think anyone expected us to be so dominant from the first race,” Camirand said. “We have an excellent team in place, we are proud to represent Paillé course//racing team and I am sure that this is only the beginning of the great things that we can achieve together.”

The secret to the early success could be crew chief Robin McCluskey who spent the past six seasons with L.P. Dumoulin (No. 47 Weathertech Bellamare Dodge), guiding him to two Pinty’s Series championships. McCluskey returns to a familiar role as crew chief for Camirand - the two spent 16 races together from 2013-15 compiling six top fives and 10 top 10s.

McCluskey also has success at CTMP with two career wins at the track. His most recent came with Dumoulin in last year’s Olymel Grand Prix of Ontario, just one day before Camirand’s win.

“We have to go shake down a new road course car and test it,” Camirand said about this week’s preparations. “We’ll be ready for the race.”

If Camirand’s road course car is anything like the rocket he had at Sunset, the field will be battling for second place.

Kevin Lacroix looks to return to CTMP dominance

If Camirand isn’t the clear CTMP favorite, it’s only because Kevin Lacroix (No. 74 Bumper to Bumper/Lacroix Tuning/Boulonnerie Dodge) has spent the majority of his career winning races at the track. Five of them, in fact – a feat only matched by series “Ironman” DJ Kennington (No. 17 Castrol Edge/Cathcart Trucking Dodge) who has five career wins at Delaware Speedway.

Three of Lacroix’s wins, in 2016-17, came consecutively, making him one of two drivers in series history to win three straight races at the same track – Andrew Ranger accomplished the feat twice (ICAR, 2012-14 and GP3R, 2008-10).

In 12 starts at CTMP, Lacroix has finished in the top five eight times. It seems the only way to stop him from a shot at the podium is car trouble. Lacroix’s four finishes outside the top five were all a result of crashes or mechanical issues, and all of them resulted in finishes of 23rd or worse. If you toss those four starts out – the first three for Lacroix at the track, and the first race of 2021 – he has an incredible average finish of 2.0.

Sam Fellows chasing his racing dream

It doesn’t get much better than this week for Sam Fellows.

After spending his weekdays promoting the Castrol Victoria Day Speedfest as CTMP’s Director of Marketing, Fellows will jump behind the wheel of his No. 98 CURB Records Chevrolet for Sunday’s eBay Motors 200.

This season is his second as a full-time driver in the NASCAR Pinty’s Series after finishing second in rookie points in 2021.

“I felt really lucky to have the opportunity last year,” Fellows said. “Everything was so uncertain during covid I wondered where I was going to be able to go next with my racing, that opportunity with Jim Bray and Curb Records was a true blessing. To be on the grid with the best drivers in Canada, this field is so deep with talent. It’s incredible and I’m trying to learn and do the best I can.”

Competing at CTMP, a track he grew up on, makes the opportunity even more special. Fellows has success at the track, owned by his father, Canadian racing legend Ron Fellows. He won his debut Canadian Touring Car Championship (CTCC) race in 2017.

While that moment was special indeed, a CTMP win at the highest level of Canadian motorsports would be the pinnacle for the Fellows family.

“It’s hard to put into words really what that would mean,” Fellows said. “My dad had some important and memorable wins here, but we never imagined we would be part of the ownership. It’s like our second home now. It would be emotional for me and my family to say the least. There would be a lot of hugs and tears I think.”

Notes & Nouvelles - Série NASCAR Pinty’s - Marc-Antoine Camirand veut prouver que Sunset n'était pas un hasard

Même avant sa performance dominante lors de l'ouverture de la saison à Sunset Speedway, Marc-Antoine Camirand (Chevrolet no96 GM Paillé) aurait abordé le eBay Motors 200 comme l'un des favoris pour la victoire.

Un rapide coup d'œil au palmarès de Marc-Antoine Camirand au Canadian Tire Motorsport (CTMP) démontre pourquoi : une victoire et trois 2e places lors des six dernières courses. Sa victoire est survenue lors de sa plus récente visite à ce circuit historique, le Clarington 200 couru en septembre dernier. Marc-Antoine Camirand avait alors dépassé Alex Tagliani (Chevrolet n°18 Viagra/St Hubert) à cinq tours de l'arrivée et avait ainsi remporté sa première victoire sur circuit routier en série Pinty's.

"Je suis très excité d'y aller", déclarait le vétéran pilote. "J'aime bien le CTMP ; c'est mon genre de circuit - je suis plutôt un gars qui aime les circuits routiers."

La préférence de Camirand pour les circuits routiers remonte à ses premières années en course. Il a remporté le championnat de Formule 1600 en 1997 à l'âge de 18 ans, devenant ainsi le plus jeune champion de la série. Mais comme il l'a montré samedi soir en menant un record de 203 des 250 tours de la course, ses performances sur circuit ovale ont fini par égaler ses prouesses sur tracé routier.

Ce qui a rendu cette course encore plus impressionnante, c'est qu'il courait avec une toute nouvelle équipe et une toute nouvelle voiture. Pendant l'intersaison, Camirand est passé de l'équipe 22 Racing à la nouvelle équipe Paillé Course//Racing, avec des voitures préparées dans son atelier éponyme, Camirand Performance.

"Je pense que personne ne s'attendait à ce que nous soyons si dominants dès la première course", a déclaré Camirand. "Nous avons une excellente équipe en place, nous sommes fiers de représenter l'équipe Paillé Course//Racing et je suis sûr que ce n'est que le début des grandes choses que nous réaliserons ensemble."

Le secret de ce succès précoce pourrait être le chef d'équipe Robin McCluskey qui a passé les six dernières saisons avec Louis-Philippe Dumoulin (Dodge n°47WeatherTech / Groupe Bellamare), guidant cette équipe vers deux championnats en série Pinty's (2018 et 2021). McCluskey revient dans son rôle familier de chef d'équipe pour Marc-Antoine Camirand - les deux ont travaillé ensemble dans 16 courses de 2013 à 2015, accumulant six top-5 et 10 top-10.

McCluskey a également connu le succès au CTMP avec deux victoires en carrière sur le circuit. Sa plus récente victoire est survenue avec Louis-Philippe Dumoulin lors du Grand Prix Olymel de l'Ontario en 2021, un jour seulement avant la victoire de Camirand sur la même piste.

"Nous devons essayer une nouvelle voiture de circuit routier et la tester", a déclaré Camirand au sujet des préparatifs de cette semaine. "Nous serons prêts pour la course".

Si la voiture de circuit routier de Camirand performe comme la version pour ovale au Sunset Speedway, le peloton se battra pour la deuxième place le week-end prochain.

Kevin Lacroix souhaite dominer à nouveau au CTMP

Si Marc-Antoine Camirand n'est pas le grand favori au CTMP, c'est que Kevin Lacroix (Dodge no74 Bumper to Bumper/Lacroix Tuning/Boulonnerie) a passé la majorité de sa carrière à gagner des courses sur ce circuit. Cet exploit n'est égalé que par "l'Homme de fer" de la série, DJ Kennington (Dodge no17 Castrol Edge/Cathcart Trucking), qui a remporté, entre autres, cinq victoires en carrière au Delaware Speedway.

Trois des victoires de Lacroix, en 2016-17, sont survenues consécutivement, faisant de lui l'un des deux pilotes de l'histoire de la série à remporter trois courses consécutives sur le même circuit - Andrew Ranger a accompli l'exploit à deux reprises (ICAR, 2012-14 et GP3R, 2008-10).

En 12 départs au CTMP, Kevin Lacroix a terminé huit fois dans les cinq premiers. Il semble que la seule façon de l'empêcher de monter sur le podium serait un problème de voiture. Les quatre résultats de Lacroix en dehors du top-5 sont tous survenus suite à des accidents ou problèmes mécaniques, et se sont tous soldés par une 23e place ou pire. Si l'on exclut ces quatre départs - les trois premiers de Lacroix sur le circuit, et la première course de 2021 - il affiche une incroyable moyenne à l’arrivée de 2,0.

"Je suis vraiment chanceux de l’opportunité de courir que j’ai eu l'année dernière", a déclaré Sam Fellows. "Tout était si incertain pendant la COVID, je me demandais où on se retrouverait pour chaque course. Le volant offert par Jim Bray et Curb Records a été un véritable cadeau du ciel pour moi. Être sur la grille de départ avec les meilleurs pilotes du Canada est incroyable et j'essaie d'apprendre et de m'améliorer à chaque sortie."

Courir à CTMP, un circuit sur lequel il a grandi, rend cette opportunité encore plus spéciale. Sam Fellows y a connu du succès, propriété en partie de son père Ron Fellows, une légende canadienne de la course automobile. Sam a remporté sa première course du Canadian Touring Car Championship (CTCC) en 2017.

Le moment est vraiment spécial, car une victoire au CTMP au plus haut niveau du sport automobile canadien serait le summum pour la famille Fellows.

"Il est difficile de décrire ce qu'une telle victoire signifierait ", a déclaré Sam Fellows. "Mon père a eu des victoires importantes et mémorables ici, mais nous n'avons jamais imaginé devenir des partenaires de la propriété. CTMP est devenu une deuxième résidence pour nous maintenant. Le moins que l'on puisse dire, c'est que ce serait émouvant pour ma famille et moi. Il y aurait beaucoup d'accolades et de larmes, je pense."
