TUDOR Championship Provisional Standings Update
Following the sixthh round of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) (July 13) the battle for points remains close in driver, team and manufacturer championships. With five races yet to go in the 2014 season, plenty of points remain on offer (NOTE: Not all classes run al each event)
The tightest battles seem to be in Prototype (P) and GT Daytona (GTD) where ten points cover the top seven drivers in P and eight drivers in GTD. In both classes any of the top fifteen drivers can make a very quick move up the charts when there are thirty-six points available for a win.
In Prototype, Vancouver's Michael Valiante and team mate Richard Westbrook (SDR Motorsports #90 Corvette DP) are tied for fourth in the standings with 207 points, just one point back of Gustavo Yacaman (208). The race at CTMP ended with Yacaman taking the victory over Valiante and Westbrook who finished second, and gaining a three point advantage (36 vs 33). Meanwhile the Action Express duo of Barbosa and Fittipaldi are tied for second on 213 points while the Taylor brothers (Ricky & Jordan) sit first overall with 218 points.
In GT Le Mans, Montreal's Kuno Wittmer and Dodge SRT team mate Jonathan Bomarito are tied for third with 170 points. Garcia and Magnussen (Corvette Racing) lead with 190 points. Between first and third, there are four drivers tied for second on 170 points. To make thing even more interesting, there are four drivers tied for fourth on 165 points. There are no less than sixteen drivers all within a race victory of shooting to the top in this category. Of course that would require some major issues for any of the other competitors – unlikely given these drivers are all with the top manufacturer teams such as Corvette, BMW, SRT (Dodge) and Porsche – which just happens to be the running order in the team championship.
Prototype Challenge has run five races this season (the class did not run at Long Beach, Belle Isle or CTMP) and well, it seems someone forgot to sort the list by points so we had to do some searching. After five races, David Ostella (Maple, ON) is seventh (108 pts – tied with James Gue) and Chris Cumming (Vancouver, BC) is eighth (104 pts). Colin Braun and Jon Bennett are tied for first on 169 points
In GT Daytona, Woodbridge, Ontario based AIM Autosport continues to lead the team championship (164 pts) while the drivers of the #555 Ferrari 458, Towsend Bell and Bill Sweedler are out front in the driver's championship. Magnus Racing (#44 Porsche) sits second in the team championship (161 pts) with Alex Job Racing (#22 Porsche) in third (157 pts), Turner Motorsport (#94 BMW) fourth (155 pts) and Paul Miller Racing (#48 Porsche) fifth (150 pts). The top ten teams are all within a race win of the championship lead.
Next up for the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship is the Brickyard Grand Prix at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, July 25th. All four classes are racing at this event.
