Calabogie, Ontario - It took Scott Hargrove a little while to get to work during qualifying for the Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Michelin event Saturday at Calabogie Motorsports Park, choosing instead to play a waiting game.

But young Canadian star Hargrove wasted little time getting the job done once he started.

Hargrove, from Surrey, British Columbia, continued his perfect record in qualifying at the first two events this season by winning the pole in the No. 69 OpenRoad-6th Gear Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car. He turned a track-record time of 2 minutes, .241 of a second (2:00.241) on his first flying lap after sitting in the pits for the first 13 minutes of the 30-minute session.

Championship leader Hargrove, 19, turned only one more lap at speed in the session before parking in the pits. None of the 14 other drivers could top his lap on the challenging, fast, 20-turn, 3.05-mile (5.05 km) circuit.

"It was a really interesting qualifying session," Hargrove said. "Everybody else went out early. We waited about 15 minutes, and then I went out. I only put two laps on these Michelin tires, and they'll be good to go for the race."

Two 45-minute races are scheduled Sunday. Round 3 of the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA)-sanctioned championship starts at 10:15 a.m. (ET), with Round 4 at 2:45 p.m. Hargrove won the first two rounds of the season May 17-18 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, Ontario.

Spencer Pigot, from Orlando, Florida, qualified second at Calabogie at 2:01.132 in the No. 21 Alegra Motorsports entry. Chris Green, from Montreal, was third at 2:01.230 in the No. 9 Pfaff Motorsports 911 GT3 Cup car.

Marco Cirone and Perry Bortolotti of the Ottawa-based Mark Motors Racing team were the two quickest Platinum Masters (drivers age 45 and older) qualifiers. Cirone, from Toronto, was fourth overall at 2:01.905 in the No. 88 car. Bortolotti, from the Ottawa suburb of Kanata, Ontario, was fifth overall at 2:02.280 in the No. 84 Mark Motors Racing Porsche.

Tim Sanderson, from Pickering, Ontario, was the top Gold Cup (2010-2013 model cars) qualifier at 2:04.707 in the No. 07 Alegra Motorsports/Northwest Atlantic Motorsports car. Sanderson also won the playful GT3 Kiddie Cup Challenge by Michelin race on Porsche toy push cars among series competitors in the paddock after qualifying.

Chuck Harris, from Tampa, Florida, was the quickest Silver Cup (2005½-2009 model cars) qualifier with a top lap of 2:09.317 in the No. 50 Alegra Motorsports Porsche, a track record for the class.

POST-QUALIFYING QUOTES:

SCOTT HARGROVE (No. 69 OpenRoad-6th Gear, Platinum Cup pole): "It's great. I got this OpenRoad Porsche back at the front. It's never finished worse than that, so hopefully we'll continue that trend. It was a really interesting qualifying session. Everybody else went out early. We waited about 15 minutes, and then I went out. I only put two laps on these Michelin tires, and they'll be good to go for the race. We're looking good on pole. Good tires. The setup is phenomenal. These guys have done a great job, and hopefully we can get this OpenRoad Racing Porsche at the front." (About returning to series after initial plans were to race only in season opener at CTMP): "This is only my second time racing with the IMSA GT3 Porsche Cup Challenge. It's been a lot of fun, and hopefully I can come back and get to do the race in Toronto and Trois-Rivieres. Street circuits are a lot of fun for me, and I want to be able to go out there and compete with these guys with walls beside us and see who's got the biggest kahunas."

TIM SANDERSON (No. 07 Alegra Motorsports/Northwest Atlantic Motorsports, Gold Cup pole): "We're pretty pleased about the pole for tomorrow's race. We went back to the setup we used yesterday (in test) when we were in the 2:05's, and we bested that time, so we're pretty pleased with that. We struggled with setup yesterday and this morning, as well. It's great. The track has come in; the tires are working well. We'll see what tomorrow brings." (About winning GT3 Kiddie Cup Challenge by Michelin push-car race in paddock): "I don't know if the smile was bigger on my face after qualifying or after that race, but it was phenomenal. Porsche gave me a great push car today, and the Michelin tires were awesome. Once we got her going, some of our competitors struggled in turns 1, 2, 3 and 4, but other than that, it was a great race. We had a lot of fun."

CHUCK HARRIS (No. 50 Alegra Motorsports, Silver Cup pole): "We came up from Tampa for the good weather, and we got it. It was great. My goal was to move up the grid as a Silver car and made a little progress, so I was pretty happy." (About race): "It's going to be fun tomorrow. With this track, it keeps the field bunched up, so there's going to be some good racing. There's a lot going on out there." (About track): "It's the most complicated track I've ever been on. I go, 'Where am I?' It's all good. Great track, beautiful facility."
