Montreal, Quebec – Patrick Dussault achieved a second podium finish in 2019, as the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada presented by Yokohama was back on track for rounds 3 and 4 at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal. Dussault and his Lauzon Autosport n°77 car obtained a runner-up finish on Sunday, after an action-packed weekend.

Both Canadian and American championships were in action in Montreal during the Formula One Grand Prix of Canada weekend, as almost 40 Porsche GT3 Cup cars were on track at the same time.

On Sunday, Dussault managed to gain some positions during the 45-minute race, after taking the start from 7th place. His Lauzon Autosport n°77 Porsche GT3 Cup crossed the finish line in 5th place overall, 3rd in the Canadian class, but Dussault was given the 2nd place in the Canadian championship after Parker Thompson received a penalty.

“We worked very hard throughout the weekend. We were motivated to have strong outings home with the Lauzon Autosport n°77 car. This is another great race, and we are keen to come back for more,” said Dussault.

On Saturday’s race, Dussault was off to a good start, but an incident early in the race forced him to start back for the rear of the field. When the race finally resumed after a long yellow flag, he managed to push as hard as he could to finish 14th overall (9th in class).

“We had a good qualifying run and I was starting from P4 overall. I tried a little too hard to overtake in the first laps and I spun my Lauzon Autosport n°77 Porsche GT3 Cup. When it went green again, I only had a few laps left, but I made them count: I passed more than half of the cars in the field, starting from the back and moving on to the 14th spot on 39 cars,” explained Dussault.

Lauzon Autosport driver and Dussault’s teammate Étienne Borgeat was involved in a severe accident early on Saturday’s race. Borgeat was airlifted to the hospital to treat collarbone and shoulder blade injuries, while his n°2 Porsche GT3 Cup car sustained heavy damage. Therefore, he did not participate in Sunday’s race.

Rounds 5 and 6 of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada presented by Yokohama will take place at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, on July 5-7, as a side event of the Mobil 1 Sportscar Grand Prix in the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship.
