Bowmanville, Ontario – This Father’s Day weekend, Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) will turn back the clock when it hosts the Vintage Automobile Racing Association of Canada’s (VARAC) Vintage Grand Prix, June 14-16.
This marks the 40th anniversary of these beautifully restored race cars from the past 50-plus years competing on the world-famous Grand Prix circuit.
One of the many event highlights is a 50th anniversary celebration of the Formula 1600 class – an important open-wheel development category that has launched the careers of many great Canadian racers.
Drivers from the golden era of F-1600 racing in Canada – the Bulova Series – will be on hand to meet fans and talk about their experiences. The modern era F-1600’s will take to the track for a Toyo Tires F1600 Series Championship triple-header.
Volvo is this year’s featured marque, with a field of 20 Vintage Volvo Racing Association cars ranging from 1959 to '72, doing battle.
Fan favourites, like the Classic Grid for G70+ and G90+ cars (cars built between 1973 and 1995), the Monoposto Grid for Wings & Slicks and the MG & Triumph Challenge, are also on the three-day weekend schedule.
There’s lots more than historic cars racing on track to wow auto enthusiasts at CTMP, with a special Saturday parade lap by The Horseless Carriage Club of America–Ontario Region (HCCA) showcasing a selection of “Brass Era” vehicles from the early 20th century, plus the Field of Dreams Classic Car Show on Sunday, and the Mini Meet North (one of Canada’s largest annual gatherings for Mini owners) all weekend long.
Other off-track features are the kid-friendly Play Area located inside the CTMP Marketplace, the CTMP Official Merchandise Trailer, the new Johnsonville Trackside Grill and the Beer Garden featuring the Brock St. Brewing Company’s new “61 Lager”, that fittingly honours CTMP’s racing culture and history since opening in 1961.
Access to all of the racing and off-track activities is included with your weekend SuperTicket - and as a special Father’s Day weekend treat - so is free camping. As with every major event at CTMP, children 16 and under are admitted free when accompanied by a paying adult.
Discount weekend SuperTickets are available online for $31.50 until June 12. After that, they can be purchased at the gate for $35, with Saturday and Sunday single day tickets at $20.
