Bowmanville, Ontario – The Castrol Victoria Day SpeedFest kicks-off Canadian Tire Motorsport Park’s (CTMP) 2019 major event race season this Friday to Sunday (May 17-19) with a jam-packed long weekend of fun, both on and off the track.
On track, it’s the ground-pounding roar of the NASCAR Pinty’s Series stock cars and the high-octane super cars of the Blancpain GT World Challenge America that headline a schedule with 13 races and 22-hours of action over the three days.
The event also features races in the Pirelli GT4 America, Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Yokohama, the Canadian Touring Car Championship presented by Pirelli, and the Nissan Micra Cup Series.
Defending NASCAR Pinty’s Series champ, L.P. Dumoulin of Trois-Rivieres, QC, launched his title chase with a victory at last year’s CTMP season-opener, and he will be among the favourites to win again when the 2019 campaign gets under way Sunday at 1:30 pm with the Clarington 200.
He’ll face stiff competition from a strong field of former title and NASCAR race winners, including D.J. Kennington (St. Thomas, ON), Andrew Ranger (Roxton Pond, QC), Kevin Lacroix (Saint-Eustache, QC) and Alex Tagliani (Montreal). Tagliani was the series runner-up last year and he won CTMP’s NASCAR Pinty’s race in August.
Off-track, the entertainment and value for fans this holiday weekend is second-to-none. The CTMP Marketplace is an activation area located adjacent to the paddock in Turn 1, with interactive displays and the kid-friendly Canadian Tire Action Zone. The latest in fashionable race clothing and souvenirs can be found at the CTMP Official Merchandise Trailer, and fans can tame their thirst and hunger at the new Johnsonville Trackside Grill, along with other food and drink options, including the trackside Turn 1 Beer Garden.
Autograph collectors can meet their favourite drivers at the five sessions scheduled through the weekend. They will also have access to all of the series team paddock areas – home to the transporters, cars, crews and drivers when they’re not on track racing.
Saturday night highlights include CTMP’s traditional Victoria Day weekend fireworks display and live music by Blue Thumb Envy.
All of this is included with the weekend admission ticket. Three-day weekend SuperTickets and Camping passes are available online for purchase until Wednesday at midnight, and then at the gates throughout the weekend. Children 16 and under are admitted free when accompanied by a paying adult.
