Spengler (BMW) and Wickens (Mercedes AMG) start the DTM Series this weekend at Hockenheim
The 2014 DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters) season gets underway this weekend at Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg and Canadians Bruno Spengler (BMW) and Robert Wickens (Mercedes AMG) are back to begin the quest for the series championship.
Bruno Spengler, the 2012 DTM Champion, will want to start the season strong after suffering in the second half of 2013. Four consecutive races with no points left him third overall in the championship despite two podiums – including a win in the first five races. Spengler ended the season on the podium (p3) at the finale, also at Hockenheim. He also started from pole twice (Speilberg, Hockenheim) This is Bruno Spengler's 11th season in DTM and his third with BMW. He returns with BMW Team Schnitzer in the #9 BMW Bank M4 DTM
Robert Wickens kicks off his third season in the series and with Mercedes-AMG after improved results in 2013. Wickens scored three podiums on the season (P2 Brands Hatch; P2 Norisring; P1 Nürburgring) and went from pole once (Norisring). He would finish the season seventh overall after failing to score points in six races. Following his win at the Nürburgring he had a run of bad luck over the final three races. Consistency this season should put Robert directly in the hunt for the overall championship. He returns with Mercedes AMG driving the #12 FREE MAN'S WORLD C-Coupé
Track action gets underway at the 4.574 km (2.842 mi), 17-turn Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg on Friday (2nd). The event also includes races with FIA Formula 3 European Championship, Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland and Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup. A complete weekend schedule is listed below.
