Toronto, Ontario – R. Ferri Motorsport RACING WITH FERRARI team feels like it has the home track advantage with Alex Riberas of Spain and Kyle Marcelli of Canada in the No. 61 Ferrari 488 GT3 as the Pirelli World Challenge/Sprint X Series continues this weekend at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville.
Ferrari Factory Pilot, Riberas, of Barcelona, Spain and Kyle Marcelli, of Barrie, Ontario, sit fifth overall in the standings with 27 points, 17 behind the leading duo, following the first two rounds of the series which began April 28-30 at Virginia International Raceway in Alton, Virginia. Riberas and Marcelli recorded 12 points in the first round and 15 in the second. This is the first year together for the Riberas and Marcelli partnership and they are confident moving forward after their impressive effort in the first two rounds.
Commented R. Ferri Motorsport Racing with Ferrari team owner Remo Ferri: “We’re excited to be back at our home track CTMP. We know the track well and are expecting strong results all weekend.
In a Toronto Star article, Marcelli said: “It’s special to race at home. It brings a different element of excitement, but then there’s also the other side – there’s additional pressure because you’re racing in front of a lot of familiar faces.”
The SprintX format debuted last year at CTMP and proved to be exciting. It should be equally entertaining this year with Marcelli garnering fan support in his first time competing at CTMP in this series.
Riberas recorded a Team Championship last year in the Asian Le Mans Series and second-place finish in the Driver’s Championship.
Marcelli has been racing sports cars professionally since 2010. A former Canadian Formula Ford champion, he entered this season having competed in 180 career and posted 21 wins.
