Hockenheim, Germany – Young Montréal-born driver Kami Laliberté concluded on a great note his first complete German Formula 4 season with a 2nd place finish on the Hockenheimring road course, as the championship had its 24th and last race of the season disputed.
Following his 8th and 3rd place finishes of yesterday’s first two races on the weekend and a very satisfying 2nd place finish today, the Van Amersfoort Racing driver has also climbed in the season’s final standings from 13th to 9th place. One must note that his teammate Joey Mawson was crowned champion yesterday.
Under a sunny sky contrary to yesterday, starting from the 3rd position on the grid, the Canadian took the lead as early as he exited the second corner of the first lap. He managed to maintain his position until the last lap when Mick Schumacher attacked him and after a strong defense by the Van Amersfoort Racing driver, managed to steal the lead. Laliberté concluded as 2nd, earning another podium finish for what has ended being his better weekend in the German Formula 4 championship.
"I am proud and very happy with the results I had this weekend. I worked well with my team and it paid off. I wish I had conclude with a win but Mick Schumacher came from the back to steal that little pleasure, said Laliberté still obviously satisfied with his latest results. I wish to thank all those who supported me this season at Van Amersfoort Racing. I am looking forward to be back on track next year. The way I ended this season gives me confidence for the future.”
Despite the success of the Canadian driver over the weekend and the pair of wins obtained Saturday by his teammate Joey Mawson, Mick Schumacher’s win today deprived Van Amersfoort Racing of the season’s title, ending just a mere four points behind the champion team.
