It will be a very busy weekend on the streets of Long Beach, California as four racing series are set to compete on the tight 1.98 mile, 11-turn temoprary race course. This is the 40th year that race cars will be tearing up the streets in southern California which also features the popular Toyota Celebrity Race. Following is a brief listing of any Canadian entries in the event as well as the track times and broadcast infor for each series.
Pirelli World Challenge Championship
This is round two for the Pirelli World Challenge Championship having kicked off the season in St.Petersburg, Florida just two weeks ago. As with the opening round, this race will feature on the GT, GT-A and GTS classes. The defending race champions (2013) are James Sofronas, Audi R8 LMS (GT) and Lawson Aschenbach, Chevrolet Camaro (GTS) Note that GT-A is a new class for 2014 for gentleman drivers in the GT class. IMSA TUDOR Championship
Long Beach marks round three of the TUDOR United Sports Car Championship following Daytona and Sebring. After completing the two longest races of the seaon, the race at Long Beach will be the season's shortest at only 100 minutes. Only two of three classes will be competing on the Long Beach street course - Prototype and GT Le Mans (GTLM). There are twenty-one (21) entries between the two classes which is close to the limit for the track. While the P2 and GTLM cars have competed here before, this is the first trip to this track for the Daytona Prototypes. This is round two for Indycar which started its season two weeks ago in St. Petersburg, Florida. The series continues with twenty-three (23) entries. Long Beach always provide a great deal of excitement - and drama, and this year should be no different. The 2013 race champion was Takuma Sato who is coming off a strong run at the season opener. There is a lone Canadian in the Indycar series, James Hinchcliffe. He is looking for some redemption after going out of the race after 34 laps in 2013 (having just taken the victory in the 2013 opener)
