Zeewolde, The Netherlands – The German Formula 4 Championship young hopes will gather this weekend on the shores of the North Sea, as on the 19, 20 and 21 August, they will dispute the penultimate program of the season on the Zandvoort circuit, in the Netherlands. Like his teammates at the Van Amersfoort Racing, Kami Laliberté will somehow be at home, although being from Canada and Montréal. The reason: the team’s headquarters being located in Zeewolde in the suburbs of Amsterdam, just 85 kilometers away from the track. For the young man, it will be his first attempt to do well in a race at this famed course since he entered the F4 championship.
"I like this circuit, which also has a history with the great drivers that have raced there. I have often been testing there and I felt really comfortable. It is a technical track with several turns of all kind. My qualifying session will be very important since there are very few places where you can overtake. I think I can do well, better than two weeks ago, "said the young driver who has spent many hours in recent days at the team headquarters, preparing the coming weekend at Zandvoort.
Laliberté will want to take advantage of his knowledge of the 4.307 km long Dutch circuit, a very technical course with thirteen (13) turns, including some particularly tight. Not only the Canadian has been testing on several occasions on this track, his team and its staff has utilized Zandvoort dozens of times over its four decades of existence. One must also note that Laliberté and his F4 team mates will be sharing the track this weekend with the senior members of the team, the Van Amersfoort Racing team drivers engaged in the European Formula 3 championship attending the annual “Formula 3 Masters”.
Laliberté who two weeks ago, got a Top-10 finish in his last outing on the Nürbugring German circuit, will want to run a good qualifying session on Friday afternoon. This session is scheduled for 14:45 pm local time (8:45 am EDT). His two best laps will then determine its position from the first and second race of the weekend, scheduled for Saturday at noon (6 am EDT) and 5:45 local time (11:45 pm EDT). The last event of the program is scheduled for 10:20 local time (4:20 am EDT) on Sunday morning.
Historically, in a different configuration, Zandvoort has hosted thirty times between 1964 and 1985 the Formula 1 Grand Prix of the Netherlands. The "Formula 3 Masters" are on schedule every year since 1991 at the track where between 1995 and 2001, modernization works were executed.
