Following Two CTCC Wins, Alex Tagliani Adds a Third-Place Podium Finish in the NASCAR Pinty's Race in Trois-Rivières

Montreal, Quebec - After winning two Canadian Touring Car Championship races on Friday and Saturday, Alex Tagliani closed his weekend with a third place finish in Sunday's round 8 of 12 of the NASCAR Pinty's Series held at the Grand Prix of Trois-Rivières, his third podium finish of the weekend. The 50-lap NASCAR Can-Am race held on the 2.46 km, 11-turn temporary street course was won by defending race winner and race polesitter Kevin Lacroix of St. Eustache, Quebec who led from start to finish. Andrew Ranger of Roxton Pond, finished second ahead of Tagliani. Alex Labbé of Victoriaville, QC, and Daniel Morad of Toronto complete the top five.

Starting second, Tagliani held on to second place until the restart on lap 32, when he was overtaken by Ranger. The Chevrolet EpiPen16081508b driver then held on to third place until the chequered flag.

"A third-place finish is not bad, but it is not enough to close in on the championship leaders. We are in catch-up mode because I missed the season opener," said the EpiPen-Riobel-CanTorque driver. "Kevin (Lacroix) had the faster car today. My only hope to move past him was at the restarts, and I gave it all. In my last try, I could have had a chance if I had not been so close to the wall exiting corner one. Had I done so, I'm sure he would have quickly taken it back because I flat spotted my right front tire during the attempt. When Andrew (Ranger) went by me, I decided to save third place."

Twenty-two drivers started the race and 16 crossed the finish line, with ten on the lead lap. The race was twice under caution for 10 laps.

In 41 NASCAR Canada Series starts, Tagliani has five wins, two poles and 16 top five finishes. This year, he has a series high three wins, two third-place finishes, a fourth and a sixth in seven starts. Tagliani missed the season opener in Mosport in May to compete at the famed Indy 500.

Following Round 8, Tagliani is still third in the Driver standings with 304 points. Andrew Ranger still leads with 331 points, but he has increased the gap to five points over rookie Cayden Lapcevich who finished sixth overall. Tagliani Autosport owner Colin Livingston still leads the Owner Standings ahead of Team Doug Kennington.

The Grand Prix of Trois-Rivières Can-Am Le 50 Tours will be televised on TSN on Saturday, August 21 at 3 p.m. ET. The NASCAR Pinty's series will return to action on Aug. 20 at the Riverside International Speedway oval track in Antigonish, Nova Scotia.

Two overall wins for Tagliani in the CTCC Series

Alex Tagliani scored two outstanding victories in the Canadian Touring Car Championship Series held Friday and Saturday at the 47th running of the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières. Driving the Grand Touring Class Fast Wheels Ford Mustang Boss 302, Tagliani finished first overall twice ahead of the much faster Super Grand Touring BMW 330i of class points leader Eric Hochgeschurz from Carlton Place, Ontario. The gap was close in the two races but especially in the Saturday event when the BMW of Hochgeschurz was all over Tagliani's rear bumper. Philippe Gélinas of Grand-Mère QC, finished third on Friday and Rémy Audette of Sainte-Anne-des-Lacs, QC, was third on Saturday 40 seconds behind Tagliani.
