Spielberg, Austria – Under a sunny sky and soaked by the warm temperature that is currently hittting Central European countries, young Montréal-born driver Kami Laliberté lived Sunday a tough day on track as the German Formula 4 championship drivers were concluding a weekend on Austria’s Red Bull Ring. Since Friday, Laliberté and thirty-three other young chargers were engaged in the 5th program of their 2016 season. Starting from the 3rd place on the grid of the morning race, the Canadian wasn’t able to avoid the driver who in front of him went skidding at the beginning of the second lap. Having to return to his pit box to change his front wing, he climbed back from the 34th to the 19th place and would have probably gained more positions should the race have lasted more than the scheduled 19 laps.

In the afternoon, having to take the 28th position on the grid following the result of his Saturday’s race, quick and in control on track, the number 35 car driver had been able to climb up to the 16th place as the 6th lap was clocked, just before he got caught in sandwich between two rivals and felt back to the 23rd place. Then again, Laliberté climbed back up to 18th place before another rival touched briefly and ruined his ascent. The Canadian conclude finally in 26th place after recording the fastest lap time of the race.

‘’Once again, it’s a season of learning and it produces a lot of surprises, not always pleasant. With 34 cars on track and several like myself in their first complete season, chaos can often occur and it’s not that easy to stay away from trouble. Also, being honest, it can also be our own responsibility. One must not be discouraged, especially when you recorded good times in practice sessions, qualifying or during the races. Today, I’m returning home with at least a silver lining, having recorded my best qualifying of the season as well as the fastest lap in the third race. I must thank my team for their support and their work. Now, I’m concentrating on the Nürburgring and wish to offer to the team some good results on this track’’, said the rookie driver.

The driver will reconnect with Germany and the Nürburgring in two weeks, August 6, 7 and 8. On the 3.629 track configuration of the mythic German track located in the Eifel mountains in the western part of the country, the Canadian has ran during two days of testing at the beginning of the month. Engaged in his first complete season of the hotly disputed series, Kami Laliberté occupies actually the 12th place in the standings that Australian teammate Joey Mawson is currently leading. “Besides his genuine talent and his experience in the championship, Joey’s results demonstrate that we are with a very good team. I remain convinced that other success will come for me also’’, concluded the 16 years old driver.
