Toronto, Ontario – Radical Canada announced today the details of the 2016 Radical Canada Cup (RCC) racing series. Run in conjunction with the Canadian Automobile Sports Club (CASC) and open to all Radicals, the Championship builds on the successful history of one make championships in Canada and Radical series’ around the world.
"The Radical Canada Cup’s third season was very successful and we’ve recently sold several cars that will be racing with us in 2016," says Radical Canada’s President Robert Burgess.
Starting May 14th at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, the Championship will run six events and finish at Le Circuit Mont Tremblant on September 25th. The series is also making its first trip south of the border in 2016 with a race at Autobahn Motorsport Country Club on June 16-19th (see below for complete schedule).
Each race weekend will consist of practice, qualifying sessions and two or three races, as well a test day held the Friday before each event. There will be lots of track time and participants will have the option of running just one day or having two drivers compete in an event.
2015 Radical Canada Cup Champion Rob Calisi will be back to defend the title in 2016 “I’m looking forward to even better competition and given the number of new cars and drivers entering the series I'm sure that will be the case.”
Castrol Oil and Dunlop Tire are returning as series sponsors with Dunlop supplying the specs tires and Castrol as the official lubricant supplier. “Dunlop has worked closely with Radical to develop a spec tire which offers excellent performance and longevity,” says Phil Lamont of Dunlop Racing North America.
Championship points will be awarded based on the CASC point system, with 30 going to the winner and points being paid down to the 15th place finisher. Each driver’s best 5 out of 6 events will be used to calculate their season points total. Contingency prizes will also be awarded at each event.
All participating cars must conform to the Series Rules which ensures parity amongst the Radicals and each driver must also have a valid racing license.
