BGR Piper Race Cars wrapped up the 2015 season with a win at the Formula Tour 1600 finale at the beautiful Circuit Mont Tremblant. Mikhail Goikhberg piloted his Piper DL7/Honda to the win after a disappointing run on the penultimate round when he was hit from behind and taken out of the lead fight. Rookie Ben Hurst also had a stellar day coming home in 4th to finish off a superb first season. The two BGR cars ran flawlessly during the 3 day event and expect to compete in both Canadian series next season.
"We enjoy our fall trips to Tremblant each year as a nice wrap up to the season and winning makes it even more fun. Both our drivers did a great job and despite getting punted off on the Saturday, Mikhail rebounded the best way possible, with a pole and win. Ben showed that he is getting stronger and will be ready for next season with BGR Piper Race Cars. Thanks go out to Marcel Lafontaine and his group with Formula Tour, it is always fun to run with them and we look forward to a full campaign next season in addition to the Ontario Toyo Tires F1600 Championship where we will look to defend our 2015 title win." states team owner Brian Graham.
BGR Piper Race Cars is now prepping for some fall testing and is also making plans for competition south of the border this winter. 2015 has been a successful season for the team taking the Toyo Tires F1600 Championship with driver Reid Arnold and despite only a part time season, also finished 2nd in with Zacharie Robichon. Ben Hurst finished 4th overall and claimed the Rookie of the Year award. Wins in two Formula Tour events while running a part time schedule including the Sunday morning win at the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix highlighted the visiting teams season.
"We are very proud of all of our drivers this season, Zach always put the Piper up front and the fantastic win at the F1 weekend was just one of the team highlights. Reid really made a big improvement and was rewarded with his first Championship in just his second season of F1600. Ben really was a true rookie and from the start of the season to the final weekend showed improvement and visited the podium once in a solid first year while clinching BGR's 9th ROY in the last 10 years. Mikhail won twice in his part time campaign and will continue with the team in a part time capacity next season. We are looking forward to bringing Taegen Poles in for a full season in 2016 as she looks to make a run for the 2016 ROY. All in all, a super year and some very important building blocks for next season. A big thanks goes out to Piper Race Cars, Fast Forward Components, HPD, Toyo Tires, Quicksilver Race Engines and Move Motorsports for all they do for us." comments Brian Graham.
BGR is the Canadian distributor for Piper Racecars and is a factory supported team of the popular chassis which is built in California, USA. The all new Piper DL7 debuted late last season and grabbed its first win at CTMP winning the Al Craighead CanAm Cup. BGR has put more drivers in the winner’s circle than any other team in OFFC history and has an incredible run winning the Rookie of the Year 9 of the last 10 years. With an alumni list that boasts drivers who have gone on to Championships all over North America to several starters in the Indy 500, BGR is well known as the place to begin a career in open wheel racing.
