Exclusive Autosport Duo in Calabogie Double-Header
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan – Exclusive Autosport dominated on its return to the Toyo Tires F1600 Series, 22nd-23rd August, as Australia’s Scott Andrews swept both races at the MCO Ted Powell Memorial event hosted at Ontario’s Calabogie Motorsports Park.
Andrews was joined on the podium by Canadian team-mate Thomas McGregor who took second place in both races as Exclusive Autosport showcased their strengths once again in the series they won in 2013 and 2014.
Returning to compete in Canada prior to resuming their full-time title challenge next weekend with Andrews in the F1600 Formula F Championship in the United States, Michael Duncalfe’s squad proved to be the class of the field in the official North American factory Spectrum entries.
Saturday’s qualifying session saw the 24-year-old Andrews clinch pole, and set a new track record with a commanding 2:11.525s lap time around the 5.05km Calabogie circuit. McGregor set the second fastest time of the morning to take second on the grid alongside his team-mate.
Race 1 witnessed a textbook performance from Scott as he launched off the line to lead Thomas and the ensuing pack into the first turn. The Exclusive Autosport pair then raced away from the competition over the 10-lap sprint. Andrews cruised to victory with McGregor delivering second place. Third placed Reid Arnold was thirty seconds back from the checkered flag as Exclusive celebrated their first win of the weekend.
Sunday’s on-track performances mirrored Saturday’s outing with Andrews capturing pole position once again in the #92 Exclusive Autosport / Exclusive Management Inc. / Automobility PTY Ltd / Andrews Automotive / Spectrum / Sparco / Honda Racing HPD. McGregor, steering the #90 Exclusive Autosport / Exclusive Management Inc. / Dairy Queen / Spectrum / Sparco / Honda Racing HPD, ran his team-mate close in the session, taking second place just seven tenths behind for a second straight Exclusive Autosport front-row.
Race 2 delivered another team 1-2 as Andrews again streaked ahead of the field followed in close pursuit by McGregor. While the race was shortened slightly due to an opening lap incident, the outcome was inevitable as the Exclusive pairing demonstrated their outright pace over their F1600 rivals. Scott beat Thomas to the checkered by a close second while third placed Graham Lobban trailed home 14-seconds later to complete the podium celebrations.
“I’m thrilled to see such a phenomenal showing from our team this weekend,” stated Exclusive Autosport Team Principal Michael Duncalfe. “We dominated every session here at Calabogie and more importantly we came away having developed our Spectrum race package even further. We had our engineer John Walko let loose this weekend and his hard work, coupled with some outstanding teamwork from Scott and Thomas on-track, really paid off.
“It was great to come back to the series and demonstrate our strength again, especially beating our previous track record here. We never take anything for granted, that’s why we work hard to produce strong results. We’re fighting for a title in the United States with Scott and our team performance here really helps with momentum heading into the next round in New Jersey next weekend. All in all it’s been an extremely satisfying weekend back in Canada where we first tasted success as a team.”
