Starworks Confirms Drivers for Rolex 24 For LMPC Class
Starworks Motorsport is happy to confirm its PC driver line-up for the Rolex 24 at Daytona,January 25-26.
The 7 car duties will be shared by drivers Alex Popow (Ven), Martin Fuentes (Mex), Isaac Tutumlu (Spain), Pierre Kaffer (Ger) and Kyle Marcelli (Can) who is new to the Starworks party.
The 'dream team' who set the fastest PC lap at the Roar will remain the same in the Starworks #8 with Eric Lux(USA), Mirco Schultis (Ger), Renger van der Zande (Neth) and Sam Bird (UK).
The Starworks Oreca-Chevrolet FML009 cars topped the PC category during final practice at the 'Roar Before the 24' earlier this month, with the 8 car setting the fastest overall PC lap of the test with Briton Sam Bird.
Peter Baron, Starworks Motorsport Team Owner:
"I am so excited to get this season underway after what was the most painful off-season ever in my history in motorsport. I am looking forward to coming back with a new 7 car line-up and I think that the 8 car was one of the favourites to beat after the Roar."
"We were struggling a bit on the 7 car with the balance of people, and bringing Pierre and Kyle to the program immediately puts that car as a front runner as well. I think that when the chequered flag flies on Sunday we could be in a good position to have a group of our drivers leaving with a watch."
Kyle Marcelli makes his PC debut in Starworks #7:
"I am very happy to be joining Starworks Motorsport for 2014. It means a lot to have been selected by Peter for the job and it's an honour to join the list of the many talented and experienced racing drivers that have been a part of this organization over the years. Regardless of the category or series, Starworks has proven to always be a top competitor and I expect the same this year in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship. I have been training hard throughout the short off-season and will be bringing my best efforts to the program. I can't wait to get back into the race car in just a few weeks for the 24 Hours of Daytona."
Pierre Kaffer rejoins Starworks for 2014 in the #7:
"The year started very well for me at the Dubai 24 Hours and now I head to Daytona for the Rolex 24 to join a really great team of drivers at Starworks. I know the PC car very well from last year when I drove it with Mirco and it will be great to be driving with Kyle instead of against him for this race! I am also looking forward to seeing all the guys at Starworks again and with a strong driver line up in the 7 car, we definitely have a chance for the victory."
