The Nissan Cup Grand Prix this Saturday, August 15th at the Autodrome St-Eustache

Mississauga, Ontario – This Saturday, August 15th, the Nissan Micra Cup will present the ninth and tenth rounds of the inaugural season for this exciting motorsport series. This highly contested championship guarantees yet another spectacular event at the Autodrome St-Eustache, just north of Montreal.

Joining Thanaroj Thanasitnitikate, the Nissan GT Academy driver from Thailand, at the top of the leaderboard in the drivers’ championship is Quebecker Olivier Bédard, who will try to continue his winning streak after claiming a double victory at the two Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières races, less than two weeks ago.

Third in the championship, Stefan Rzadzinski will require maximum points to remain in contention for the overall title, which will also be the goal for Abhinay Bikkani, the Nissan GT Academy driver from India. None of these drivers have much experience at the Autodrome St-Eustache, unlike the two women entered in the event, Valérie Chiasson and Valérie Limoges, who are fifth and sixth in the championship, respectively. No doubt they will want to benefit from their knowledge and experience to close the gap separating them from the top three.

Another driver to watch is veteran Jacques Bélanger, a multi-time winner on this track, and Antoine Bessette. This former Formula Atlantic driver had a remarkable series debut at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières, as he adapted to the Nissan Micra with ease to earn himself a pole position and a podium.

Approximately two kilometres in length, the technical track at the Autodrome St-Eustache will display the Nissan Micra’s attributes including its driving agility, and will give another opportunity to measure the talent of the twenty-five drivers competing.

In the Novice category, another battle for the victory is expected between Metod Topolnik and Olivier Pelletier. However, Yves Aubé, winner of the second race at Trois-Rivières, will again be trying to supersede the favourites.

During the Nissan Cup Grand Prix, the Nissan Micra Cup series drivers will be sharing the spotlight at the Autodrome St-Eustache with the NASCAR Sportsman series. The combined presence on the track will be concentrated solely on Saturday, a unique occurrence this season for the Nissan Micra Cup. The lone practice session will take place at 10:00 am, followed by qualifying at 11:30 am. The two races will be held at 1:45 pm and 3:30 pm. A full day of action awaits the Nissan Micras on August 15th!

REMINDER: TWO RACES TO BE TELEVISED!

Thanks to the organizers of the GP3R, Nissan Canada and JD Promotion, the two Nissan Micra Cup races from the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières will air on RDS on September 5th at 10:00 am, and again on RDS2 on September 8th at 7:00 pm. That’s an hour of television completely devoted to the Nissan Mirca Cup series and its fans!
