Bowmanville, Ontario – Both Michael Adams and Connor Wagland have good reason to smile on a grey and gloomy morning at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
Adams won the overall pole for Toyo Tires F1600 Championship Race 1 at Victoria Day SpeedFest Weekend, which marks not only the first race of the season for the series but also the first race of the 2015 F1600 Super Series.
Wagland was the top qualifier in B Class on a morning where cool temperatures and overnight rain made conditions challenging for the entire field.
After spending two years on the sidelines, Adams is buoyant to be so quick right out of the gate.
“It’s really confidence-instilling,” he said. “It’s a really clean track out there – pretty green, but we were confident coming into it. We’re happy.”
Wagland, who continues to ride the wave of his B Class championship last year, echoed Adams’s sentiments on the challenging qualifying conditions.
“The track was really green because it rained overnight, so it was very slippery out there,” Wagland said. “But who cares when you’re on pole? It will probably be a really sticky track for tonight and it should be a good race.”
Race 1 for the Toyo Tires F1600 Championship and F1600 Super Series at Victoria Day SpeedFest gets under way this afternoon at 4:50 PM local time. Another full round takes place tomorrow with qualifying beginning at 9:10 AM and Race 2 going green at 6:05 PM.
