Leads championship ahead of double-header race weekend in Alabama
Toronto, Ontario – Just days after winning the prestigious Grand Prix of Long Beach in California, R.Ferri Motorsport RACING WITH FERRARI has made the cross-country trek to Birmingham, Alabama, for this weekends double-header Pirelli World Challenge at Barber Motorsports Park.
The team carries the momentum from the race-winning outing on the streets of Long Beach, and driver Olivier Beretta continues to lead the championship with five of the 20 races now in the books. Campaigning the No. 61 R. Ferri RACING WITH FERRARI Ferrari 458 Italia, Beretta has made a winning visit to each of the three opening race weekends of the season and will look to continue that momentum again this weekend.
The event, which sees World Challenge again staging their race as part of the big IndyCar Series event, will be a busy one for the team with a practice session on Friday ahead of qualifying and race one on Saturday and then the second race of the weekend on Sunday morning.
“The track is flat, and it smooth, like a European track,” said Beretta, who has one start on the circuit in a prototype. “The double header weekend won’t change my approach--I have a very good car and an excellent team. We are working in the same direction and want the same things. But this championship, there are a lot of strong competitors so I will push hard like I always do.”
The cross-country trek ahead of Thursdays test session underscored how important having a well-prepared team behind you is.
“The team did an amazing job after Long Beach, these guys are such hard workers,” said Beretta. After the race in Long Beach, the guys had to drive all the way over here. They are working on the same spirit. For me, what I do as the driver, it is just a part of the effort. I am very happy with this team and hopefully we can have a good weekend here at Barber.”
"We came out of Long Beach with the win however it was a difficult weekend,” said team owner Remo Ferri. “Our team needs to regroup as does the series. I’m looking forward to Barber and putting Long Beach behind us. We need to have a strong race and get as many points as possible. We've proved that we're capable and our team is ready for this weekend."
