Joey McColm had an encouraging qualifying for his 2nd Trans Am race at Homestead, but suffered some tough luck in the race, caught up in an accident that forced him to retire early on.
RaceCanada - Was the damage done in practice mostly cosmetic and aero damage, or was there mechanical damage as well?
Joey McColm - Yes the damage was just cosmetic and aero. When the car hit the grass, the splitter was torn off, but we fixed the damage easily by installing a new one.
RC - How much damage was done to the car in the race crash?
JM - The nose was pushed into the radiator and we damaged the front end, but there was no structural damage.
RC - Are there any concerns that the car won't be ready for the next race?
JM - Definitely not! The car is already in the race shop, and only needs a few days work before it will be ready to go again.
RC - Did separating the TA-2 cars make a noticeable difference on the track?
JC - Yes I noticed a big difference on the track. With more cars on the track, I have to be mindful about passing the TA cars. With the separated class, I didn't have to think as much about that so I could focus on the actual race.
RC - What will you take away from Homestead to use in Road Atlanta?
JM - That's hard to say since I have never been to Road Atlanta. Homestead-Miami Speedway was more like Daytona, and Road Atlanta is more like Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. So I will probably apply my knowledge from CTMP and Sebring when it comes time to race at Road Atlanta.
