It's A Quiet Weekend Coming Up For Team Turner.
Caistor Centre, Ontario - Following one of the busiest portions of their season, Team Turner Racing has a bit of a breather in their schedule this weekend. The team will still be involved in two big events at two different tracks this weekend though, plus a sponsor appearance.
FRIDAY, JULY 25
Jamie, Cory, and Havard kicked off the weekend with their 360 Sprint Cars at Ohsweken Speedway. A large crowd was on hand for one of the team's favourite events of the season - Autograph Night. All of the TTR drivers enjoyed meeting all the fans and signing autographs. Cory brought home the team's best feature finish, as he got up as high as 5th before jumping the cushion and ended up 10th in the non-stop 20 lap race which went green-to-checkered in less than 5 minutes. Havard finished 14th in the feature, while Jamie started 18th and finished 15th.
Cory's 10th place finish was his first top 10 finish at Ohsweken in his rookie season of Sprint Car competition there.
SATURDAY, JULY 26
Ryan was back at Merrittville Speedway with his DIRTcar Sportsman Modified on Saturday night. He finished 3rd in his heat race and started 7th in the A-Feature. Ryan's #91 was as far back as 9th a couple of times during the race, but he recovered to fight for a top 5 spot, and eventually finished right where he started - in 7th.
Ryan is now 11th in the Merrittville championship standings, 16 markers behind 10th place Adam Leslie.
SUNDAY, JULY 27
Ryan's portion of the weekend finished on Sunday at Humberstone Speedway. He won his heat race and earned a front row starting spot in the A-Feature. He started 2nd in the feature, but ended up finishing 6th.
"(Ryan) had a really fast car but got a little unlucky on a couple of restarts," says brother Cory.
Ryan is now 10th in the championship standings, just 4 points behind 9th place Jordan Cosco.
MONDAY, JULY 28
Jamie, Cory, and Havard were back at Ohsweken Speedway on Monday night for the annual Northern Summer Nationals event. An increased purse for the special event drew some out of town teams, but it was still a full-points event for Ohsweken's Corr/Pak Merchandising 360 Sprint Car teams. All 3 TTR drivers had trouble transferring through their heat races and ended up in the B-Main, where they were able to earn transfer spots to the A-Feature. Jamie's night ended early, as his right rear tire exploded, and bent a radius rod on the rear end of his car. Havard started 22nd and finished 21st, while Cory started 21st and advanced all the way to 14th.
"I was the 6th finishing Corr/Pak regular, and the car was working very well. Had I made it through the heat race, I would have made things a little easier on myself," says Cory.
Jamie is currently 10th in the Ohsweken championship standings, while Cory is 12th and leads the Rookie of the Year standings.
TUESDAY, JULY 29
Jamie and Cory were among a handful of local drivers who brought knives to a gunfight on Tuesday when they attempted to qualify for the World of Outlaws 410 Sprint Car event with their 360 cubic inch engines. The track was fast and tacky, and got even faster after a brief rain shower. Jamie and Cory qualified 29th and 30th in time trials, finished 8th and 7th in their respective heat races, and 6th and 7th in the B-Main. Only 4 cars transferred out of the B-Main to the A-Feature.
"We would like to have made the show, but with it raining half way through the show, we definitely could have used 410's on the hammer-down track," says Cory.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Ryan has two big DIRTcar Sportsman Modified events on his calendar this weekend, with a King of the Crates series event at Merrittville Speedway on Saturday, August 2, and the All-Canadian Championship at Humberstone Speedway on Sunday, August 3.
Jamie and Cory will be not racing their Sprint Cars anywhere this weekend, but Cory will have his #19 on display at KT Tobacco on Sunday, August 3 for their anniversary sale. Jamie and Cory will be back in action on Friday, August 8 when the Empire Super Sprints tour visits Ohsweken Speedway, and they plan to travel to Brighton Speedway on Saturday, August 9 for a Southern Ontario Sprints tour event.
