After months of planning and anticipation, the NASCAR Pinty’s Series has finally arrived in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Following a trek across the eastern part of the country – over 2,500 km for some teams – haulers arrived at Eastbound International Speedway and Concert Park Thursday in advance of Saturday’s PRO•LINE 225 Presented by QwickWick. The race is the first for the Pinty’s Series in Newfoundland, the seventh different province the series has visited.

“Our fans and competitors have been excited for the trip east since we announced this race,” said Chad Seigler, NASCAR Vice President, International Business. “This weekend is a great opportunity to showcase NASCAR and our drivers to fans on the eastern coast, and those that made the trip. We have a great partner in the Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Tourism and are honored to be part of the Come Home 2022 festivities.”

This will be the first look at the track for almost every series regular which opens the door for a surprise winner. Though some drivers, like current points leader Kevin Lacroix (No. 74 ESR WHEELS/Lacroix Tuning/Boulonnerie Dodge), enjoy the challenge of a new track.

“We’re quite confident, I learn new tracks pretty fast,” Lacroix said. “I think we have a good basic setup and have other similar tracks we can refer to.”

While it may be difficult to know exactly what you need at a new race track, there are ways for drivers to prepare before showing up.

“I’m watching a lot of video from the track to help me try to anticipate what will happen,” said Treyten Lapcevich (No. 20 RGC Sports/Qwick Wick/FBM Chevrolet). “You can kind of see the lines that people are taking and try to duplicate that when you get there.”

But the advantage may go to series legend D.J. Kennington (No. 17 Castrol Edge/CIM Metals/Cathcart Trucking Dodge) who competed at the track just a few years back.

“I’m really looking forward to getting our Castrol Edge Dodge on track at Eastbound Speedway,” Kennington said. “I had a great experience there a couple of years ago, it’s a fun track to race on and having that little bit of experience will certainly help us at the start. There’s a lot of race fans there and we’re looking to put on a good show for them and be on the top step of the podium at the end of the night”.

Eastbound International Speedway is the 21st different track to host a race in the 16-year history of the NASCAR Pinty’s Series. It has been a NASCAR-sanctioned Home Track since 2016.

Trip To Newfoundland And Labrador A Different Experience For All

Beyond the action on the track at Eastbound International Speedway, the trip marks the first time to the province for some drivers and a familiar return for others.

Kevin Lacroix is one who will be making his first trip to The Rock.

“It will be my first time that far east,” Lacroix said. “I’m really excited to discover what it’s like over there – the culture, the people. It’s very different from Montreal, so I’m excited to see that.”

For reigning series champion LP Dumoulin (No. 47 Weathertech/Bellemare Dodge), a trip to The Maritimes has a special meaning.

“My mom is from New Brunswick, so every time we go out East I get really excited,” Dumoulin said. “I have friends in Newfoundland who are waiting to see us. It’s a different lifestyle out there, I love it.”

Three Races, Three Overtime Finishes, Three Different Winners

An exciting pattern has emerged in the NASCAR Pinty’s Series with the first three races of the 2022 season being decided in Overtime.

Andrew Ranger (No 27 GM Paille Chevrolet) was the latest driver to capture the checkered flag after an overtime finish, holding off teammate Marc-Antoine Camirand (No. 96 GM Paille/Chevrolet Canada Chevrolet) to win the QwickWick 250 Presented by St. Hubert at Autodrome Chaudiere.

Ranger has competed at all 20 tracks the series has raced at and has at least one win at 17 of them.

“We have a fantastic car for Newfoundland and can’t wait to get there,” Ranger said. “It’s great for the series and great for the fans – and I hope to win another race. Any time you win a ‘first’ race, it is special. It’s a nice track and the fans will be amazing, and I can’t wait to get there.”

Ranger joined Treyten Lapcevich (Sunset) and Kevin Lacroix (CTMP) as 2022 series winners.

à Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador soulève l’enthousiasme général

Après des mois de planification et d'anticipation, la série NASCAR Pinty's est enfin arrivée à Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador.

Un voyage à travers l'est du pays de plus de 2 500 km pour certaines équipes. Les remorques sont arrivées jeudi au Eastbound International Speedway and Concert Park en prévision de la course PRO-LINE 225 présentée par QwickWick. Il s'agit d'une première pour la série Pinty's à Terre-Neuve, la septième province différente visitée par la série.

« Nos amateurs et nos participants sont enthousiasmés par ce voyage dans l'Est du pays depuis que nous avons annoncé cette course, » a déclaré Chad Seigler, vice-président de NASCAR, Affaires internationales. « Ce week-end est une excellente occasion de présenter une course NASCAR ainsi que nos pilotes aux amateurs de la côte est, et à ceux qui ont fait le voyage. Tourisme Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador est un excellent partenaire et nous sommes honorés de faire partie des festivités du festival "Come Home 2022". »

Il s'agit de la première visite à ce circuit pour presque tous les pilotes réguliers de la série, ce qui ouvre la porte à une surprise dans le cercle de la victoire. Cependant certains pilotes, comme le meneur actuel au championnat Kevin Lacroix (Dodge no74 ESR WHEELS/Lacroix Tuning/Boulonnerie), apprécient le défi que représente un nouveau circuit.

« Nous sommes assez confiants, j'apprends les nouvelles pistes rapidement », a déclaré Lacroix. « Je pense que nous avons de bons réglages de base et que nous pouvons aussi nous référer à d'autres circuits similaires. »

Bien qu'il puisse être difficile de savoir exactement ce dont vous avez besoin sur un circuit que vous découvrez, il existe des moyens pour les pilotes de se préparer avant d’entrer en piste.

« Je regarde beaucoup de vidéos du circuit pour anticiper ce qui va se passer, » a déclaré Treyten Lapcevich (RGC Sports/Qwick Wick/FBM Chevrolet n°20). « Vous pouvez analyser les trajectoires utilisées par les pilotes habitués à la piste et essayer de les reproduire durant la qualification et la course. »

L'avantage pourrait cependant aller à la légende de la série, D.J. Kennington (Dodge n°17 Castrol Edge/CIM Metals/Cathcart Trucking) qui a couru sur le circuit il y a quelques années.

« J'ai vraiment hâte de rouler avec notre Dodge Castrol Edge en piste à Eastbound Speedway, » a déclaré Kennington. « J'ai eu une belle expérience là-bas il y a quelques années, c'est une piste amusante et avoir ce petit peu d'expérience nous aidera certainement. Il y a beaucoup d'amateurs de course là-bas et nous voulons leur donner un bon spectacle et monter sur la plus haute marche du podium. » Concluait le double champion de la série.

Eastbound International Speedway est le 21e différent circuit à accueillir une course dans les 16 ans d'histoire de la série NASCAR Pinty's. Il s'agit d'une piste sanctionnée par NASCAR depuis 2016.

Le voyage à Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador : une expérience unique pour tous

Au-delà de l'action sur la piste de l'Eastbound International Speedway, le voyage marque la première visite dans la province pour certains pilotes et un retour en terrain connu pour d'autres.

Kevin Lacroix en est à son premier voyage sur l'île dite "The Rock".

« Ce sera mon premier voyage aussi loin dans l'est du Canada, » a déclaré Lacroix. « Je suis vraiment excité de découvrir comment c'est là-bas - la culture, les gens. C'est très différent de Montréal, alors j'ai hâte de voir ça. »

Pour le champion en titre de la série, Louis-Philippe Dumoulin (Dodge no 47 Weathertech/Bellemare), un voyage dans cette province atlantique revêt une signification particulière.

« Ma mère est originaire du Nouveau-Brunswick, alors chaque fois que nous allons dans l'Est, je suis très excité, » a déclaré Dumoulin. « J'ai des amis qui m'attendent à Terre-Neuve. C'est un style de vie différent là-bas, et j'adore ça, » conclut le triple champion de la série.

Trois courses, trois finales en prolongation, trois vainqueurs différents

Un modèle passionnant a émergé pour les fins de courses dans la série NASCAR Pinty's lors des trois premières courses de la saison 2022, toutes décidées en prolongation.

Andrew Ranger (Paillé Course//Racing Chevrolet no 27) a été le plus récent pilote à s'emparer du drapeau à damier en prolongation, tenant tête à son équipier Marc-Antoine Camirand (Chevrolet no 96 Paillé Course//Racing / Chevrolet Canada) pour remporter le QwickWick 250 présenté par Saint-Hubert à l'Autodrome Chaudière.

Andrew Ranger a couru sur les 20 circuits visités par la série et a remporté au moins une victoire sur 17 d'entre eux.

« Nous avons une voiture fantastique pour Terre-Neuve et nous sommes impatients d'y aller, » a déclaré Andrew Ranger. « C'est génial pour la série et pour les fans - et j'espère y gagner une autre course. Chaque fois que vous gagnez une 'première' course, c'est spécial. C'est une belle piste et les fans seront incroyables, et je suis impatient d'y être, » d’ajouter le vétéran pilote.

Andrew Ranger rejoint Treyten Lapcevich (Sunset) et Kevin Lacroix (CTMP) en tant que vainqueurs en série cette année.
