Milverton, Ontario – It is one of the most anticipated race events on the schedule for the NASCAR Pinty’s Series each year. The Pinty’s Grand Prix on the streets of Toronto where they are the feature event on Saturday takes place this weekend.
“Our season is made up of 13 great events at ten different facilities but racing on the street course at Toronto is definitely one of the highlights of the season,” said Scott Steckly, owner of 22 Racing. “We have two drivers who are extremely talented on road and street circuits, so we look for good things from them this weekend.”
Alex Tagliani drives the number 18 Rona/EpiPen Chevrolet and this is a favourite course for him, and it is no wonder. In three events here he has a win and second place finish with one pole and has led laps in all of them. “I’m very excited to be back on the streets of Toronto where our team has been fast in the past,” said Tagliani. “We have had a decent start to our season in the points as we are third, so we are going to continue on the quest for a championship. I’m looking forward to trying the car here with the new tires,” he added. “There will be a great Rona kiosk in the paddock for the fans to play at with some challenging games and they can win great prizes.”
Marc-Antoine Camirand driver of the number 22 GM Paille Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 looks to better his past performances on this challenging tight 11 turn, 2.874 km course. He qualified 2nd in 2018 but an early race brush with the wall meant an ill handling car for the remainder of the race. He still finished in 6th place proving he is a great wheelman. “I am very excited to be back at the Toronto Indy again,” said Marc-Antoine Camirand. “We did good here last year starting second and finishing 6th but hopefully we can get on the podium this year.”
Donald Theetge driver of the number 24 Mercedes/Benz entry will make his 2nd appearance at the Pinty’s Grand Prix and he will be the first to admit that road course racing is not his forte. But in 2018 he moved up multiple positions during the race to finish in 9th which he considered a win. But watch out for Theetge when we hit the Western Swing in two weeks as he is a threat to win all three races. “Road course racing is something I have not done a lot of in my career so if we can place in the top ten again this year, I will be very happy with the result,” said Theetge.
