Team NPP was competing in two US states the first week of July. Darrell Midgley was racing the Super Late Model in Rochester, Washington at South Sound Speedway. Lane Zerbin was behind the wheel of his open wheel Modified.
Zerbin’s original plan of racing three consecutive nights in Oregon changed early Saturday morning. Zerbin decided to wrap up his three-night US tour at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Washington.
#81 SUPER LATE MODEL – MIDGLEY ROCHESTER, WA (July 3) - Darrell Midgley registered his best ever finish at South Sound Speedway Wednesday night. The only Canadian in the field drove the Northern Provincial Pipelines Ltd./Alien Race Cars #81 Dodge to a 5th place finish in the Wes Rhodes Firecracker 126. Midgley's previous best finish at the Rochester, Washington track was 6th at the August 2017 Miller 200 Super Late Model race.
#81 MODIFIED – ZERBIN COTTAGE GROVE, OR (July 4) - Close to 25 Modifieds packed the pits for Night #1 of the 2019 Freedom Cup at Cottage Grove Speedway. Lane Zerbin kicked off the night qualifying 7th in the Northern Provincial Pipelines Ltd./C-Force Marine #81 Modified. After finishing 5th in his Heat race, the Victoria, British Columbia driver’s appearance in the 25 lap Feature was extremely brief. On Lap 4, while running 10th, Zerbin jumped the cushion of the oval track and clipped the retaining wall. Damage to the race car was too severe to continue. Zerbin was credited with a 19th place finish.
COTTAGE GROVE, OR (July 5) - There were some positives for Lane Zerbin to take away from Night #2 of the 2019 Freedom Cup. Early in his opening Heat race, Zerbin saw opportunity and took over the race lead. This lead was short lived. Zerbin jumped the track's cushion breaking the bead on his front right tire.
Zerbin finished 7th in his Heat and was forced to run the 'B' Feature. The highlight of the night was winning the 'B' Feature. The win automatically transferred Zerbin to the back of the 'A' Feature event. Just a few laps into the Friday night Feature, Zerbin found himself with a damaged Modified. Zerbin had nowhere to go as two cars spun in from of him.
Zerbin continued on with a damaged race car. Attempts to crack into the top 10 were hampered by an ill handling car. When the checkered flag flew, Zerbin finished 17th.
ELMA, WA (July 6) - Lane Zerbin wrapped up his three-day American road trip Saturday night in Washington State. A last minute change of tracks did not halt his recent string of bad racing luck. The Victoria, British Columbia driver got caught up in a multi-vehicle crash on Lap 11 of the 25 Lap Modified Feature at Grays Harbor Raceway.
Zerbin was the middle car in a three-wide pack that came together. Zerbin then got tagged from behind by another car. Having the second fastest car on the track during the Saturday night Feature was the only positive of the night. Zerbin was credited with a 15th place finish in the Northern Provincial Pipelines Ltd./C-Force Marine #81 Modified.
