Saskatoon, Saskatchewan – Starting from third position and from the pole respectively for the two 125-lap races, the #47 WeatherTech Canada | Groupe Bellemare car displayed its full potential yesterday at the Wyant Group Raceway. This was Louis-Philippe Dumoulin’s second pole position on an oval track and his third podium finish of the season, in a display by the #47 WeatherTech Canada | Groupe Bellemare team of its high level of performance and their determination.
Off the start of race 1, Louis-Philippe Dumoulin kept his 3rd starting position for the first 30 laps, before engaging in an intense battle that brought him up to 2nd place by lap 60. A long chase to run down the leader got Louis-Philippe Dumoulin within “bumping” distance by lap 90 when the first caution flag came out. Louis-Philippe Dumoulin held on to second spot on the lap 96 restart, but his luck then turned when he was forced into the pits a few laps later with a flat tire. That stop dropped Louis-Philippe Dumoulin down to 16th at the finish – definitely not what he and the team were looking for!
All was not lost however, as Louis-Philippe Dumoulin’s fastest lap in race 1 gave him pole position for race 2. Quick off the start, he defended his leading position effectively until the first caution flag on lap 79. Restarting from third place, the driver of the #47 WeatherTech Canada | Groupe Bellemare car got up to second place and was attacking the leader hard right up to the end of the race and a strong second place finish.
“I am very proud of the great work done by the #47 WeatherTech Canada | Groupe Bellemare team, who give me a car capable of winning races since the beginning of the season. The car was really quick out there today, leading the most laps in the second race, and the team certainly demonstrated that we had a potential winner in both races.”
Edmonton International Raceway
The seventh race of the 13-race Pinty’s season, the “LUXXUR 300 presented by Bayer” will take place at the Edmonton International Raceway, a quarter-mile oval. As was the case at the Autodrome Chaudière, the field in this 300-lap (75 miles) race will be sent to the pits for a five-minute period midway through the race. This will allow the teams to fuel the cars and change tires in a safe environment. The cars will then be put back into the race order from when the race was interrupted and then go back to racing.
The race will be broadcast on TSN on Saturday August 4th at 1:30 p.m. and on RDS on Tuesday August 21st at 10:00 p.m.
