Weekly Points Chases Begins This Friday May 19

Caistor Centre, Ontario – After a weekend off from active competition, Cory Turner got his feet wet again during Ohsweken Speedway’s Test and Tune session on Friday night. Turner prepared for the opening night showdown on May 19 with a trio of practice sessions at the fast 3/8-mile oval.

“I was just trying to hit my marks here at Ohsweken again,” Turner said. “I haven’t been out here since the Nationals last year. We’ve been racing other places, but this place is pretty unique. It has big sweeping corners, but it’s not quite as tight as Merrittville or Fulton. You carry a lot more speed, a lot more momentum, so it’s a little bit different.”

While Turner is an Ohsweken Sprint Car veteran, the seat time that the Test and Tune session affords drivers is always beneficial, he said.

“Seat time is always good,” Turner said. “I would test every day of the week if I had the resources and time. I still have a thousand things I want to try on the car. I tried a couple of them tonight and I think we found something that we can really relate to our car going forward.”

Turner is looking forward to opening night at Ohsweken aboard his KT Tobacco/Silo Wireless Hill’s Racing No.97. Even after several years at Ohsweken, Turner is still excited to start a new season at his home track.

“You always want to come out ‘guns a blazin’ for the home opener,” Turner added. “You want to win that one. It gets the monkey off your back early, get a win and things seem to fall into place a lot easier. I know we did it a few years ago in the Street Stock and we just carried that momentum for a couple months. We’ve been racing a few more times than some of the other guys, so hopefully we’re a little bit more well-tuned as a team going into Friday.”

After opening the season with a pair of podium finishes at Merrittville and Fulton speedways, Turner is confident entering the Ohsweken lid lifter that his team is on the right track.

“I love where our team’s at right now,” Turner said. “I think we’re miles ahead of where we were last year. I’m comfortable working with the Hill’s Racing Team. I know the guys. We all know our roles. I’m really looking forward to opening week.”

Race time for the 22nd Ohsweken Speedway Season Opener is 7:30pm. To view Cory Turner’s complete 2017 schedule, visit www.coryturnermotorsports.com.
