DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team have worked long and hard during the off-season to prepare for 2017 competition. This weekend the two-time series champion is ready to hit the track during the Castrol Victoria Day Speedfest at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) near Bowmanville, Ontario for the season opening even of the NASCAR Pinty’s Series.
With a renewed vigor the team has put countless hours of preparation into the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge and is set to open the season with another top finish. “We were on the podium here at the opener last year” said Kennington “and we’ll have an even better car this year so we’re in good shape” he added.
Kennington recently completed a pre-season test session at CTMP and pronounced the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge fit and ready to go. “Things couldn’t have gone much better,” said the driver. “We had one small fluid leak but nothing serious and the car handled really well all around the track,” he stated.
While this is the first race of the 2017 Pinty’s season Kennington has had plenty of track time already. With support from Castrol Canada he was able to realize a life long dream and raced in the Daytona 500 this past February. A thrill of course but Kennington also found it to be a valuable learning experience. “Being around the best drivers and seeing how they race there is always something you can learn” he said.
Having the season opening event at the Castrol Victoria Day Speedfest has also become a wonderful tradition that the #17 team enjoys. “This is such a perfect way to kick off the year. It’s the first summer long weekend, there’s always such a great turn out by fans and Castrol doing so much for us over the years, it just gets us pumped up even more” said Kennington.
DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team will hit the track for practice and qualifying at CTMP this coming Saturday and the green flag waves for 51 laps of hard charging action Sunday afternoon at 1PM ET.
