Brighton, Ontario – A long winter’s wait has come to an end for Phil Potts and the Fowl Mood Race Team. Potts will begin a new season behind the wheel of his No.29 Vanderlaan/Brighton Recycling Pro Late Model at Brighton Speedway’s 50th anniversary season opener on Saturday night.
“It hasn’t been a long winter, but sure has felt like a long winter,” Potts said emphatically. “It’s time to get back to the track and hang out with your friends and do some racing, maybe a little donut rubbin’ on the doors and have fun with everybody.”
Potts tested his Longhorn Chassis at Brighton’s open test session last weekend and was plenty satisfied in the return to his summer office space.
“The first session out I was happy, but I got happier and happier as I went. During the last session we did, the track was black slick and it was getting faster every lap,” Potts said.
“I’m extremely happy with the test. Everything we did went the way I wanted it to. I was real confident and real happy with the car.”
Potts will be a marked man entering the season opening event as the defending track champion. However, Potts has given much thought to the title.
“They say you’re supposed to start worrying about it before the season starts, but I’m just not that type of guy,” Potts stated. “I’m more concerned about racing hard, having fun and being with my guys than I am worried about the championship on the first night out.”
The opening race of the season always brings with it some of the most exciting racing. The open draw means drivers can improve their starting position for the night’s feature with a strong heat race result.
“It is important to go hard in this heat race, but you have to keep your head on straight. You don’t win money for winning the heat race,” Potts said.
Race time for Brighton Speedway’s Monster Energy 50th Anniversary Season Opener presented by Brighton Recycling is 7:00pm. Visit brightonspeedway.com for additional information.
