DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team have enjoyed plenty of success at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) over the years and the team continued that run during round number ten of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series on Sunday. With an eighth place finish Kennington has finished inside the top ten in each of the series 14 races held at the famed road course.

The weekend didn’t start out as smoothly as the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team had hoped. During the first practice session Kennington struggled with the performance of the car but rebounded in final practice and posted the ninth quickest qualifying time. “We just weren’t quite up to our usual standard at first but the guys worked hard and made some improvements,” said the driver.

Starting from the inside of row five for the 51 lap race Kennington looked to move the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge forward and did gain several positions prior to the beginning of scheduled pit stops by the field. “I wanted to see what we had and then take it a bit easy until the end of the race” explained Kennington.

After two flawless stops for fuel and fresh tires the rest was in the hands of Kennington who kept the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge near the front of the field and in position to strike. Following the second full course caution that bunched the field up Kennington was running sixth and looking to move into the top-five.

During the final green flag segment to the conclusion of the race Kennington was fiercely challenged for position and was also having some issues with the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge. “It was tough, something might have come loose because it would be tight on one lap and then feel loose on the next, really diabolical” he stated.

Kennington crossed the finish line in the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge with an eighth place result and continue two significant streaks. As previously mentioned he has finished with a top-ten result in every series race at CTMP. He is also the only driver to complete every race lap, a total of more than 700 laps of competition at one of the most challenging tracks.

“I’m super proud of that” said Kennington afterwards. “It says so much about our program, our engines and to have that kind of performance and reliability from this Castrol Edge Dodge team is special.

DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team are back in action Saturday September 10th at the Autodrome St. Eustache in St. Eustache, Quebec.

Of Note: DJ Kennington also competed in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race on Sunday at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and came home with a 14th place finish.
