Brighton, Ontario – The first of two huge doubleheader weekends is on tap next as the Southern Ontario Sprints roll in to Brighton Speedway for the Ultramar Labour Day Classic Weekend presented by Lucas Oil, Mystical Distributing and Rock 107 on September 3 and 4.
The Ultemar Labour Day Classic weekend features back-to-back nights of Southern Ontario Sprints 360 Sprint Car racing along with appearances by all of Brighton regular divisions throughout the weekend.
Three points races remain on the Southern Ontario Sprints 2016 schedule, including this weekend’s doubleheader, and Oakland, Ont. teenager Dylan Westbrook sits at the top of the standings in his rookie year. Westbrook has won the two most recent races at Brighton this year with wins coming on July 9 and August 6. Shawn Sliter and Mike Ferrell sit second and third, respectively, in the champion standings. Ryan Turner and his father, Jamie Turner, complete the top-five in the standings entering the weekend.
Brantford’s Mitch Brown has had plenty of success at Brighton in recent years and has two Brighton wins to his credit so far this season. Brown is also the 360 Sprint Car point leader at Ohsweken Speedway.
Saturday’s race will feature the Four Wide Design ‘Dream Come True Dash’. The race will exclusively feature drivers who have never earned a checkered flag in a Sprint Car. The weekend concludes on Sunday with the Simon Petit Memorial wingless dash. Drivers will have the opportunity to take the wing off their cars for a 10-lap wingless Sprint Car dash.
Saturday’s action will also feature the Bainer’s OilGARD Canadian Modifieds. Andrew Hennessy continues to lead the point standings and holds a sizeable 345-point advantage over Dan Ferguson. Kraig Handley enters the weekend third with Derrick Greig and Josh Hennessy completing the top-five. The Canadian Modifieds will also race topless in a full points paying event on Sunday as well.
The Vanderlaan Building Products Pro Late Models join Sunday’s show for their annual topless race. Charlie Sandercock currently holds a five-point advantage – the slimmest possible margin – over Phil Potts at the top of the standings. Adam Turner, Brandon Mowat and Kyle Sopaz occupy the remaining top-five spots.
The Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks will be in action for two straight nights of complete points programs. Justin Ramsay holds a 150-points lead over Gores Landing native Brandon Murrell. Doug Anderson, Wade Purchase and Jonah Mutton hold top-five positions with five races remaining.
The Bill’s Johns Comp 4s and Quinte Septic Stingers will both race exclusively as part of Saturday’s program. Tyler French continues to lead the Comp 4 standings with a massive 405-point gap over rookie Matthew Moore. Peter Moore, Adam Flieler and Luke Toms complete the top-five.
In the Quinte Septic Super Stinger division, Chris Lammle leads the standings with Del MacGregor just 15 points back in second. Rick Phillips is third ahead of Jorden Pickell and two-time winner Arthur McCauley. Cousins Brittany and Chantel Golden are tied for the Quinte Septic Junior Stinger point lead. James Turgeon, Willy Bulten and Dylan Lobb complete the top-five.
Saturday’s show will start at the regularly scheduled time of 7:00pm with spectator gates scheduled to open at 5:00pm. Sunday’s event begins one-hour early at 6:00pm with gates to open at 4:00pm. Hot laps start one hour prior to race time each night.
Adult general admission is $20 for each night of racing. Family passes are $55. Seniors and Youth are $18 each, Children 7-12 are $5 and Children 6 and under are always free. For additional details, please visit www.brightonspeedway.ca.
