DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team were poised for their best finish of the season in round number six of the NASCAR Pinty’s series at Edmonton International Raceway Saturday night. But a faulty fuel pump would dramatically alter their fortunes.

Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team worked hard seeking the best possible set up for the 300-lap event. And while Kennington didn’t post the quickest time he was pleased with the performance. “The car felt good and that meant we could experiment a bit during practice, I knew we’d run well” he added.

It was disappointing however for Kennington to start the race from the 11th spot in the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge. “I didn’t have a good second lap and that hurt our starting spot,” said the driver.

No sooner had the green flag dropped and Kennington was pushing the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge forward in the field and quickly into the top-ten. Following the mandated mid race break for pit stops Kennington was again looking to gain positions. “The deeper we got into the race the better the car was getting” he stated.

As the race moved into the late stages Kennington had pushed the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge up to second in the field. He set his sights on the race leader and while it didn’t appear he’d be able to claim top spot a runner up finish was certainly a positive result.

With only a handful of laps remaining however as Kennington looked to close out the race he felt something go awry. “We lost all power and I pulled the car onto pit road,” explained the driver. The #17 Castrol Edge Dodge scrambled to find answers and quickly discovered the fuel pump had failed. Kennington would finish the race in tenth position.

“It’s a real kick in the pants for sure,” said Kennington “but on the positive side we had a rocket tonight. “This is a tough trip and these guys worked like crazy and we made some big improvements, I can’t thank them enough. We’ll go into Saskatoon knowing how strong we can be,” he added.

DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team finish the annual western swing this coming Wednesday July 27th at Wyant Group Raceway in Saskatoon, SK.
