DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team looked to build on their strong performance at the last event as the NASCAR Pinty’s series returned to race at the Toronto Indy weekend after several years away. Regrettably their race day would end early with a part failure.

During the practice session Kennington had his hands full with the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge. “We had some brake issues, I ended up brushing the wall at one point but the team got it corrected for qualifying,” said Kennington.

The St. Thomas, Ontario racer began the scheduled 35-lap event from the 12th starting spot and quickly looked to charge forward in the opening laps. “The car felt great” said the driver. “It was a fast early pace but we were pushing into the top-ten pretty quickly” he added.

Unfortunately the day went bad quickly for the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team. “I was coming onto the front stretch and something broke and I was into the wall in an instant” explained Kennington.

Kennington maneuvered the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge to pit lane and the team found a broken spindle. The damage to severe to repair their afternoon was finished early.

“It’s one of those fluky things that are so frustrating,” said Kennington. “The whole Castrol Edge Dodge team worked so hard to be ready, but sometimes a part fails. But we’ll put it behind us and the good news is we get right back at it next weekend in Edmonton”.

After five events DJ Kennington is sixth in the overall point championship standings
