For OSCAAR, Canada Day was celebrated the only way racers know how – by putting on a show at Sauble Speedway. With a pair of top-notch fields, the fans at the track were entertained by the action.

The OSCAAR Midgets presented by The Fyre Place & Patio Shop were up on deck first and saw a mix of new & familiar faces at the front of the field throughout the night.

The hard work put in by James Stanley over the past couple of years paid off as he scored his first career OSCAAR Midget feature victory after winning both of his heats. It continues a solid start to the year as he has three top-fives in four starts this season.

Alex Cuzilla is getting things rolling with his rookie campaign, finishing in the runner-up spot in the feature after winning the second heat for his first career victory. Current point leader Brian MacDonald was third with his fifth straight top-10 finish, followed by Wayne McKibbon and Ryan Brown.

Shawn Stanley finished sixth, followed by Zack Millman, Bill Hetherton, Wally Wilson and Darryl Anthony. Notably, Wilson picked up the victory in the fourth heat for his first career win.

The OSCAAR Modified feature was cancelled on the night after Rick Schurr suffered a heart attack. Schurr is currently in hospital, listed in stable condition and breathing on his own.

“On behalf of OSCAAR, I first off want to wish Rick a speedy and full recovery,” OSCAAR President Dave Gainforth released in a statement. “I need to send out a huge thank you to the St Johns staff at Sauble Speedway, to Randy Roberts, Davey Terry, to the 2 nurses in the crowd that came to help, the OSCAAR Mod teams that assisted in the pits to ensure their racing equipment was looked after, to the Horner team for ensuring his crew reached the hospital to be with Rick. Again I cannot THANK YOU all enough for what you did. A huge thank you to the Sauble Speedway staff as well helping with everything.”

In qualifying prior to the feature, George Wilson picked up a pair of heat wins, while A.J. Emms and Gary McLean picked up a win each.

Both the OSCAAR Midget and OSCAAR Modified drivers will now focus their attention to Flamboro Speedway this weekend, where they’ll join the OSCAAR Pro Midgets & OSCAAR Super Late Models on track for a full night of racing action. Racing starts at 6pm EST with the full schedule and prices available on Flamboro’s website at http://www.flamborospeedway.ca
