Alex Tagliani Holds Off Rival in Final Laps to Finish Third on Friday Night at Autodrome Chaudière
Montreal, Quebec - Alex Tagliani drove another great race on Friday night, finishing third overall in the CRS Express 300 held at Autodrome Chaudière in Junction Vallée, Québec. Starting third on the grid following the lone qualifying session of Round 3 of the 2016 NASCAR Pinty's Series, the Laval, Quebec driver ran in the Top-6 throughout the 300-lap event. Tag crossed the finish line only four-tenths of a second behind race winner Alex Labbé of St. Albert, Quebec and less than a tenth of a second behind runner-up Cayden Lapcevich, a 16-year old rookie from Grimsby, Ontario.
"Another great race for the number 18 Chevrolet EpiPen/Riobel/CanTorque/Complexe JCP Juste du Pin," Tagliani said. "Since the start of the season, the Tagliani Autosport crew has done a fantastic job getting the car ready to race, and it's always great fun to drive a super fast car. Again today, we were really quick at the end of the race when we were running third.
"Following the mandatory mid-race stop, we came out third, but the series officials pushed us back one spot in fourth, and it should not have been so. The move changed the outcome of our race. Being on the outside lane of row two, enabled Hathaway (Jason) to bump me off the line and I lost several positions. If I had stayed where I was supposed to be, this incident would not have occurred and who knows what the outcome of the race would have been. When I finally fought my way back to third place, the leaders Labbé (Alex) and Lapcevich (Cayden) were side-by-side for the last 20 laps of the race, and the only way to pass them would have been to use my car as a bowling ball and I did not want to go there. I tried everything that was legal but there was no room for three wide. Overall, I am very happy because the car is very competitive, and our season is going great so far."
The CRS Express 300 will air on TSN on Saturday, July 2 at 12:30 p.m. The NASCAR Pinty's Series will be back on track next weekend, Sunday, July 3 for the ICAR 100 at Circuit ICAR's road course in Mirabel,Québec.
