Drumheller, Alberta - When Hidden Valley Motorsports Park ceased operation at the end of the 2007 season many thought this was the end of racing for the Drumheller, Alberta region. A dedicated group of organizers working behind the scenes had other ideas.
In 2009 Dinosaur Downs Speedway roared to life on the grounds of the Drumheller Ag Society.
Today, Dinosaur Downs Speedway remains the only operating dirt Oval facility in Southern Alberta. The Northern Provincial Pipelines Late Model Series last competed at Dinosaur Downs Speedway in 2009. The NPP Late Model Series did schedule a return appearance to Drumheller, Alberta for the 2013 season. Unfortunately, this scheduled race weekend was cancelled due to rain.
The same storm system that cancelled this 2013 race weekend in Drumheller was also responsible for the massive Southern Alberta floods in Calgary, Canmore and High River. A return to Drumheller is seriously being considered by NPP Series officials for the 2016 race season.
Officials at Dinosaur Downs Speedway have released their tentative 2016 Oval schedule featuring the annual Raptor Run on the Canada Day long weekend which features the IMCA Modified Class.
