DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team prepared meticulously for the final event of the 2015 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series racing season that took place this past Saturday at Kawartha Speedway. The hard work leading up to the race netted the team a third place finish to close out the year.
During the practice sessions Kennington posted lap times in the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge that were in record territory. “We had a really good test session here and what we learned that day really helped us out,” explained Kennington.
Kennington would line up eighth in the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge for the 250-lap season finale and began moving forward right from the drop of the green flag. “We had rain right after qualifying and that changed the track quite a bit but I was still able to get some spots, I thought we’d be in good shape” said the driver.
Still early in the race however Kennington’s #17 Castrol Edge Dodge would have contact with another driver. “That hit buckled the hood and made it really tough to see. As soon as we had a caution I hit pit lane and the team did a great job to tape it down and get me back out there,” he stated.
The unscheduled stop set the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge back in the field where Kennington methodically began to work his way forward once again. Soon he was back into the top ten and continuing his push toward the front “During the scheduled stop for service the guys did some more work and in the second half of the race I was in full attack mode”.
Kennington would again use all his skills as a driver to gain positions in the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge moving all the way up to third as the checkered flag waved on the race and the 2015 season. With the result Kennington finishes fifth in the overall championship standings.
Afterwards DJ was both proud of his team’s effort and disappointed they couldn’t do more. “We had a bunch of things pop up and bite us this year but this whole Castrol Edge Dodge team worked even harder every time we had an issue. The competition is so tough in this series fifth overall is a good result, but we come out to win every weekend and if we come up a little short, it just gives us more drive to get back and get it next time.”
“I also have to thank all the fans of the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team. It’s really special to meet so many great fans and get such a warm welcome everywhere we go, we couldn’t do it without you”.
