St. Eustache, Quebec - Scott Steckly driver of the 22 Racing/Canadian Tire Dodge would for the fifth time in seven events in the 2015 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 season lead the most laps but he came up a few laps short of taking his third win of the season.
Practice went well for Steckly as he posted times consistently at the top of the leader board. The team continued to make changes during the two half hour sessions and he was scored first in the earlier practice and second in practice two. “My team continued to make changes to the car during the combined hour of practice and I think we have a good set up under the car for the 250 lap race tonight,” said Steckly.
Steckly kept the streak alive as he cruised to his third consecutive pole win by setting the quickest time of the day a 17.173 just slightly slower than last year’s track record.
The Canadian Tire Dodge would jump out to the lead at the start of the 250 lap Lucas Oil National 250 a position he would hold for the first 61 laps. Steckly continued to jockey with other drivers for the lead over the course of the event and after great pit stops by the 22 Racing crew, Steckly again put some distance between himself and the rest of the competitors. With the laps winding down and less than 20 to go, the rear axle broke and Steckly was forced to coast home to a tenth place finish. “My crew gave me a great car again tonight,” said Steckly. “It was hard work out there as I had to battle a lot of great cars but I’m just very proud of everyone at 22 Racing. There are just some things you cannot control and breaking an axle is one of them.”
Steckly and the Canadian Tire Dodge team maintain the championship points lead and with the second place team also having trouble, they increased that lead to 11 points with four events remaining.
Next up for Steckly is the JuliaWine300.com from Trois Rivieres on Aug. 1 and 2.
