And Rescheduled Enduro Qualifier

Thorold, Ontario – CHERUBS – the Association of Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia Awareness and Support began 20 years ago in 1995 with a typewriter ... a kitchen table ... two members and a $100.00 donation.

In Canada since 1996, race fans and race teams can learn more about this devastating birth defect at Merrittville Speedway Saturday July 18th. A 6 division Lucas Oil Weekly Racing Series Event will feature Round Two of the Triple Crown Series for the Van Raine Construction 4 Cylinders and the rain-delayed second Ballhockey.com Enduro Qualifier accelerated by Niagara College.

"We haven't had a chance to welcome Rob Clark and Van Raine Construction yet this season," said (Merrittville Speedway GM) Erica Bicknell-Jones, "Rob and his wife Annelise's daughter Macey is a CHERUB ... it says a lot about them presenting the CDH awareness night and combining it with their passion for racing."

Like most of us, Rob and Annelise weren't aware of CDH until Macey was diagnosed. Now almost 2 years old – she is holding her own.

Started by a mother whose newborn son was diagnosed with CDH in February 20 years ago, it is truly grass roots organization created when there was nothing. Now with 5,000 members in 60 countries – the goal remains to not only help parents of children born with CDH but to lead the medical community in finding the cause and prevention of this birth defect.

Every baby with CDH is different – like a snowflake – no two are alike.

CDH occurs in approximately in approximately 1 in every 2,500 births. The cause of CDH is not yet known.

The diaphragm is formed in the first trimester of pregnancy and controls the lungs' ability to inhale and exhale. CDH occurs when the diaphragm fails to form or to close totally and an opening allows abdominal organs into the chest cavity. This inhibits lung growth,

CDH occurs as frequent as Spina Bifida and Cystic Fibrosis.

We have to really thank him and Van Raine for all they do for the sport – especially since the company is located so far from our area.
