Ayr, Ontario – Following a rainout on June 27 at Sunset Speedway, Adam Martin was back in action behind the wheel of the #97 Johnsonville Ford this past Saturday night (July 4).

The Ayr, Ontario racer had a very successful evening, earning his first heat race checkered flag of the season prior to recording another solid fourth-place finish in the 30-lap NASCAR Super Stock feature race.

“We had a really good night. We finished first in our heat race and fourth in the main,” said Martin, who noted that the car needed extensive repairs prior to taking to the track on Saturday. “We got quite a bit of damage during the 50-lap Garry Reynolds Memorial race a few weeks ago, so it didn’t hurt that we had an extra week off to fix the Johnsonville Ford. We were T-boned so Kerry [Micks] had to replace some of the fenders and a lot of the bodywork on one side of the car. That took a lot of work to repair but they did a great job and the car was really good on Saturday.”

Discussing his heat race victory, Martin continued, “We started on the pole in our heat and came home first. We got a good start and stayed out front the whole way. That was my first heat win of the season so it was pretty exciting. In the feature, we started third in the field of 26 Super Stocks. About halfway through, we got kind of sideswiped on a restart, which pushed us down the track in Turn 2. I was in third-place at the time and I was worried that we wouldn’t get our spot back for the restart, but we did. We ended up finishing fourth at the end of that race.”

The result was another top finish for the driver of the #97 Johnsonville / Candy Tree / Reser’s Fine Foods / Little Potato Company / SecureDrive / Stihl / Beyond Digital Imaging / GoTire / Micks Motorsports / Permatex Ford.

Martin has been extremely consistent so far this season, scoring top finishes in almost every points-paying outing in the track’s NASCAR Weekly Series. Heading into mid-July, Martin is currently third in the points behind division frontrunners Cayden Lapcevich and Randy Rusnell.

“I’m pretty proud of the way things are going. Cayden finished on the podium in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series race at Sunset a few weeks ago and Randy has won a bunch of races and championships during his career. It’s pretty encouraging – in just my second year driving a stock car – to be racing with guys like that and being so close to them in the standings at this point in the season.”

UP NEXT: The Super Stocks are not on the racing schedule this Saturday at Sunset Speedway but they’ll return for a hectic weekend of action on July 18 & 19. “We’re off this coming weekend,” continued Martin. “But then we’ll be back and busy in two weeks. We’ll have our regular night on the Saturday (July 18), and then there’s a Super Stock make-up race on the Sunday (July 19). I’m also going to race the Johnsonville Late Model, for the first time, that Sunday. I’ve been in the Late Model for a couple of tests and practices so far this season and it’s gone really well; I’m looking forward to actually racing in it.”

SUNSET SPEEDWAY NASCAR SUPER STOCK POINTS (AS OF JULY 4, 2015): 1. #76 Cayden Lapcevich (493); 2. #72 Randy Rusnell (476); 3. #97 Adam Martin (468); 4. #46 Lane Zardo (455); 5. #58 Stan Coe (453)
