The #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team were at Circuit ICAR in Mirabel, Quebec for round number four of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series this past weekend. Once again it was a challenging weekend for the team but driver DJ Kennington and the entire group never quit and overcame a very challenging track to collect a top ten finish.
Saturday’s practice sessions for the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team were the first indication that it would be a tough weekend. “We had a decent car but you’re always looking for ways to make it better” said Kennington.
Kennington hustled the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge as best he could but only managed an 11th best qualifying time. “After that we made some further adjustments as best we could and had a lot of discussion that evening about how to approach the race,” said the driver.
For Sunday’s 30 lap race on the 2.113 mile, 14 turn road course Kennington knew he’d be in for a fight coaxing a strong finish out of the #17 Castrol Edge Doge. “The competition is so tough, there’s some really talented drivers in the series so I was up on it right away” he stated.
Kennington moved the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge into the top ten as the race passed the one-third mark. From there he continued to push as hard as he could but could have used a caution period to bunch the field up once again.
Unfortunately for the team the race ran the entire length caution free but Kennington still managed to collect another position before the conclusion to secure a ninth place result.
“We’ll take that and do some more homework before the next road course,” said Kennington. “What we’re really looking forward to heading out west, we’ve hit our stride a few times during that part of the season and this #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team will be ready to go next weekend and make up some ground in the points” he added.
After three races DJ Kennington sits fifth in the overall championship standings.
The #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team are back in action next week as the series begins it’s annual western swing with a stop at Edmonton International Raceway on Saturday July 11th.
