Shubenacadie, N.S. – Will Hornblower of Sarnia, Ont. will attempt to extend his lead in the Sunoco / Brooklin Cycle Racing Pro Rookie of the Year Award in this weekend's third round of the Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship at Atlantic Motorsport Park.
Riding the Hornblower Racing / Blue Streak Yamaha YZF-R6, Hornblower claimed the $500 Sunoco / BCR top rookie award with a sixth place finish at the previous round of the series at Autodrome St-Eustache to take the overall lead for the season.
With 27 points Hornblower has a two-point lead over Gatineau, Que.'s Stephane Houle in the rookie standings. Marco Sousa of Schomberg, Ont. is third in the standings with 23 points after claiming the rookie award at the opening round of the season at Shannonville Motorsport Park on the Z1 Cycletech BMW S1000RR.
Hornblower and Sousa are both at AMP this weekend bidding for the weekend's Sunoco / BCR prize as well as points toward the season-long championship. Also in the running this weekend are local favourites Caleb Noiles of Upper Coverdale, N.B. on the C&C Racing / Capstan Haulage / Toys For Big Boys Honda CBR600RR and Dartmouth, N.S.'s Crowdis Roberts, riding a Suzuki GSX-R600.
Hornblower is competing in his first full season as a Pro on the Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship national tour after missing most of the 2013 campaign due to injury. Sousa and Houle have both stepped up to the Pro ranks after stellar Amateur seasons in 2013.
For the second year in a row, long time race supporter Brooklin Cycle Racing of Whitby, Ont. has joined with Sunoco to sponsor the 2014 Sunoco / BCR Pro Rookie of the Year Award. At each round of the Mopar CSBK Superbike Championship, the top rookie Pro in the Feature race will receive a $500 cash prize bonus from Sunoco and BCR. As well, points will be tabulated from each Pro Superbike round, and at the end of the season the Sunoco/Brooklin Cycle Racing Pro Rookie of the Year will be crowned.
The feature Pro Superbike Championship runs exclusively on Sunoco 260 GTX fuel, and competitors purchase their supply at each National round from vendor Brooklin Cycle Racing.
Kristopher Garvie of Caledon, Ont. was last year's Sunoco / BCR Pro Rookie of the Year after an intense battle with Mississauga, Ont.'s Trevor Daley. Both have built on their success this season. Daley claimed a third-place finish at the opening round of the Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship at SMP and is currently third in points riding the ProStar Motorsports Honda CBR1000RR. Garvie is fifth in the Pro Superbike standings with the Honda Canada / Fast Company / Platinum Painting Honda CBR1000RR.
