St-Eustache, Quebec – BMW racer Ben Young is the early leader in the Brooklin Cycle Racing Pro Rookie of the Year standings heading into this weekend’s second round of the Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship at Autodrome St-Eustache.

With a fourth place finish in the Pro Superbike feature at last month’s Mopar CSBK season opener at Shannonville Motorsport Park the Collingwood, Ont. S1000RR rider, sponsored by Tim Horton’s, Scot-Build Developments and BMW Motorrad Canada picked up 33 points and holds a 10-point lead over Derrick Whyte of Oshawa, Ont. Whyte was ninth at Shannonville aboard his Snow City / Canadian Kawasaki Motors / Lucas Oil Kawasaki ZX-10R Ninja.

The BCR Rookie of the Year Award is open to racers in their first year of competition in the Mopar Pro Superbike class. They cannot have competed in more than four Pro Superbike races the previous season.

The 23-year-old Young is making his debut in the Canadian Pro Superbike class after sporadic forays in the Liqui Moly Pro Sport Bike division in recent years.

This weekend’s event at Autodrome St-Eustache will be a key one for the BCR Pro Rookie of the Year challengers, as it features two points-paying Superbike races.

Third in the rookie point standings heading to St-Eustache is St-Isidore de Laprairie, Que.’s Samuel Trepanier on a BMW S1000RR. Whyte edged Trepanier to the Magneti Marelli Canadian Amateur Superbike title last season.

Last year’s BCR Pro Rookie of the Year Award was shared between Peterborough, Ont.’s Tomas Casas and Stacey Nesbitt of St-Lazare, Que. Casas finished third in last month’s Liqui Moly Pro Sport Bike opener at Shannonville on his Peterborough Cycle Salvage / Parts Canada Yamaha YZF-R6, while Nesbitt is making her 2016 Mopar CSBK season debut at St-Eustache this weekend.

A major player in the Canadian Powersport industry for more than three decades, Brooklin Cycle Racing is based in Pickering, Ont. Founded by owner Rob Egan, BCR has sold, prepared then raced and won with a wide variety of machinery, including the 1984 National Superbike title winning Suzuki Katana of Paul MacMillan.

Currently, BCR offers custom machine shop and fabrication facilities, as well as full Dynojet Dyno tuning services both at its shop and via the Official Mopar CSBK Series support Trailer. The CSBK Series Air Fence is transported and installed by BCR, while the current fleet of identical spec Kawasaki Ninja 300 racers were built at the BCR facilities last summer.

Defending Mopar Canadian Superbike champion Jordan Szoke of Lynden, Ont. heads to St-Eustache leading the overall Pro Superbike standings after winning the season opener at Shannonville on his Express Lane / Motovan / BMW Motorrad BMW S1000RR.
