Canada’s classic motorcycle racing group, the Vintage Road Racing Association, will provide support event racing for the opening round of the 2015 MOPAR CSBK National tour at Calabogie Motorsport Park, June 11-14. The VRRA has negotiated an agreement with National event organizers Professional Motorsport Productions that will see VRRA Period Four machinery take part in a separate event at the 2015 National Superbike opener.
“It seems like a natural fit for the VRRA to support the opening National, and showcase the history of Canadian National motorcycle road racing, showing off many of the bikes that helped build the Superbike class of racing,” explained PMP Media Boss John Hopkins.
“We know the VRRA can put on a good show, and we look forward to a strong grid of exciting Period Four Vintage bikes as part of our National weekend on our return to Calabogie. Bikes like Kawasaki’s ZX-7R Ninja and the Ducati 851 twin are definitely an exciting part of our history.”
The format for the VRRA race at Calabogie will match the structure for National support classes, with practice on Friday, June 12, qualifying on Saturday June 13 and the VRRA race on Sunday, June 14. Grids will be established by Timed Qualifying using the National Series AMB transponder system. Trophies will be awarded for the top three finishers in all three divisions of VRRA’s Period Four Category.
The VRRA’s Period Four includes three separate denominations; F1 featuring 1000cc four-stroke twins and 750cc four-cylinder powered racers; F2 including 750cc four-stroke twins and 600cc four-cylinder machines and 250cc two-stroke racers, while F3 includes unlimited four-stroke singles, and a host of smaller displacement multi-cylinder racers and G.P. bikes. Complete class details are available on the web at www.vrra.ca.
Discussions are ongoing regarding the VRRA’s potential participation in other MOPAR CSBK Rounds during the 2015 National road racing season.
The VRRA was founded in 1980 and all VRRA weekends include classes for bikes dating from the 1940s through to 1990. The 2015 VRRA race season starts at Shannonville Motorsport Park with the Quinte TT June 4-7, with the round two summer Classic at Grand Bend July 17-19, followed by the Vintage Festival at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park August 21-23, the VRRA season wrapping up at Autodrome St-Eustache with the Quebec GP September 12-13.
Pro 6 Cycle, the Official spec tire provider for the MOPAR CSBK tour, will also support the VRRA racers at Calabogie with a range of Dunlop slick and treaded rubber. Pro 6 also hosts a wide range of motorcycle track day activity at Calabogie Motorsport Park, including testing opportunities in the days leading up to the opening National of the 2015 season.
