Trenton, Ontario – Charlie Sandercock returned to action for two nights of racing during Brighton Speedway’s Ultramar Labour Day Classic Weekend on Saturday and Sunday, September 3-4. Sandercock made his second 360 Sprint Car start of the season with the Southern Ontario Sprints on Saturday.

He finished third in his heat and was scheduled to start fourth in the main event, but elected to start at the rear with motor issues.

“We bent a valve in the heat race and lost a push rod,” Sandercock said. “We fixed it up as best we could in the feature and just kind of dealt with what we had.”

The car hooked up well despite the engine issues and Sandercock was able to drive through the field to claim a fourth-place finish following the only caution of the race on lap four.

“It was good to get a top-five out of it. We got lucky I guess. There wasn’t enough power to spin the tires, so that was our main advantage,” explained Sandercock. “We were just riding the momentum we did have and it turned out well.”

The team didn’t want to hurt the motor any further on Sunday and opted not to race the Sprint Car again. They were in action in the annual topless Pro Late Model race on Sunday night. The No.57 earned a fourth-place finish in his heat and lined up 12th for the main event.

A slick racetrack made it difficult to move forward and Sandercock finished ninth.

“It was a slick racetrack and we have some shock issues we need to address this week,” Sandercock admitted. “When it comes to a racetrack like that, shocks are key to making good traction. I think we were behind the eight ball.”

Sandercock enters the final points race of the season 45 points out off the point lead currently held by Phil Potts. It’s been a seesaw battle all year between the two drivers and Sandercock doesn’t see any reason he can’t retake the title next Saturday.

“We’ll go in to next week with a full head of steam and full confidence that we can pull off the championship. We’ve never given up on any race, whether we’re trailing or ahead. I have full confidence in my team that we’re going to have a good racecar next weekend,” Sandercock explained.

Charlie Sandercock will next be in action on Saturday, September 10 for the championship finale at Brighton. Sandercock has concluded the Sprint Car portion of his schedule.

“I have to thank Doug and Shrek for all their hard work on the Sprint Car this year. Without them it wouldn’t be possible.”
