Rossmore, Ontario – Justin Ramsay capitalized on his front row starting position last Saturday night and earned his lucky seventh Brighton Automotive Pro Stock win of the season. ‘The Rossmore Rocket’ proved his nickname once more with a dominating performance, leading all 20 laps for another trip to victory lane.
“It was good. It’s been a rough couple of weeks so it was definitely nice to put it in victory lane,” said Ramsay, who suffered through a wreck two weeks ago.
Ramsay had a rare chance to start up front and made the most of the opportunity. There wasn’t much strategy in place for Ramsay before the race, instead choosing to take it in strides.
“I had no plan. I knew the track was real heavy and it was going to be fast,” Ramsay said. “I was really just trying to think about the best way around the track and to stick with it and go as hard as I can.”
Racing as hard as possible is Ramsay’s plan for the remainder of the season at Brighton. He leads the championship standings by 150 points over Doug Anderson, but has no intentions of taking it easy. He is also second in the Duel on the Dirt series standings, which also pits him against drivers from Humberstone, Merrittville and Ohsweken speedways.
“I’m going for broke. Whatever happens, happens,” Ramsay said. “I’m really shooting for the Duel in the Dirt. That’s where I’m points racing. I’m trying to stay on top of that because it’s hard against drivers from three other tracks.”
Four months in to the season, Ramsay is battling through the same issues that hamper many drivers near season’s end. Equipment gets tougher to maintain and any wrecks are also tougher on the wallet.
“It’s definitely a lot harder. With the wreck two weeks ago, it was tough to get everything back together. It was expensive,” said Ramsay, who is determined to finish out the season and do so on top.
A big reason Ramsay remains at the top of the standings is due to support from several sponsors and friends.
“I just want to thank all my sponsors. I had some transmission work done from K-D Transmission after the Duel in the Dirt race at Humberstone. I got a lot of parts from APC over the last couple of weeks and borrowed a bunch of stuff from Charlie (Sandercock). It’s nice to be able to thank those guys,” Ramsay said humbly.
Now the driver of the APC Auto Parts/Empey Tire/K-D Transmission No.03 is looking forward to the next two weeks at Brighton. Saturday’s Fan Appreciation night is both a fan- and driver-favourite night. It also acts as a prelude and one final tune-up before the Pro Stock doubleheader on September 3-4 during the Labour Day Classic weekend.
“It’s nice to know many fans you have. You don’t really know how many people are cheering for you until they come down and tell you,” he said excitedly. “Labour Day weekend is exciting. I like racing two nights in a row and it’s nice when you don’t have to drive miles to do it.”
