18-year-old Antonio Serravalle is set to join the 2021 Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires grid this season. Hailing from Unionville, Ontario, Canada, and noted as one of the top Canadian prospects for a future in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, Serravalle will hit the track next Tuesday for the Series Test at Barber Motorsports Park before taking on the first event of the season over the April 15-18 weekend.
"I am excited, and I truly have a good feeling about this season as we have put a lot of effort into this program,” explained Serravalle. “And while people might think we are the underdogs, it makes this experience that much more interesting and will make the success that much more rewarding.”
Actively racing since he was five years old and due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 2020 was the longest Antonio has been off the track. In 2019, Serravalle competed in the Indy Pro 2000 Championship as a privateer effort with Pserra Racing. Put to the challenge as a new team and driver combination, Antonio gained knowledge and experience both on and off the track that he will use in 2021 and beyond.
The results started showing towards the end of the 2019 season and with several top-five finishes, Antonio was driven to move on towards the next level in his career. In 2020, Serravalle worked hard and gained partners which gave him the ability to enter the Indy Lights grid, and with little track time before the first race in St. Petersburg, Florida, the Canadian managed to do very well in the one and only practice session before the cancellation of the season.
With rumors circulating the 2021 season was on and that the cars were limited, Antonio and his team decided to secure an IL-15 right away and began to work with a team from Europe that would assist them with their efforts. That plan didn’t work after all as they were then informed of the new COVID-19 variants taking over Europe, which ultimately effect travel to and from the United States. This left Antonio and Pserra Racing with no choice but to organize and get a team ready for the first race of the season with only 30 days of notice.
With full determination to race this season, Antonio managed to do his first private test at Barber Motorsports Park on March 15 and was pleased just to get out and do some laps. Antonio was appreciative that the entire paddock of teams helped him out and were very generous and welcomed having another driver on the grid.
“We have a great crew coming together with Pserra Racing,” added Antonio. “My Dad, Peter Serravalle, has a lot of experience and knowledge in the mechanical field. We will be putting the puzzle together with people with the right expertise in the proper positions, and we will be looking to expand to a two-driver line up later this year as opportunities present themselves.”
Antonio Serravalle would like to thank all of his partners for the help and support to get the 2021 season off the ground as without them, none of this would be possible.
