DJ Kennington, driver of the #17 Castrol EDGE Dodge, delivered another strong performance in the NASCAR Canada Series at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) this past Sunday. Despite not showing top-tier speed in practice or qualifying, Kennington proved his resilience and skill by securing a fifth-place finish in the WeatherTech 200.
Starting from the 14th position on the grid, Kennington was confident in the race setup of his car, expecting another strong showing once the green flag dropped. In the first half of the race, the #17 team executed a scheduled pit stop for fuel and later another stop for left-side tires, setting Kennington up for a strong run to the finish.
As the race progressed, Kennington methodically worked his way through the field. A late-race caution bunched the competitors together, giving him the opportunity to continue his charge forward. When the checkered flag waved, Kennington had climbed to an impressive fifth-place finish, adding yet another top-five to his season’s accomplishments.
This strong result at CTMP also had championship implications. Kennington’s consistent performances throughout the season have now vaulted him into fourth place in the overall standings.
DJ Kennington Quotes: "We didn’t show the speed we expected early in the weekend, but we knew we’d have a strong race car when it mattered. The Castrol team did a great job with the pit stops, and we kept pushing right to the end and that late caution helped us out. Another top-five finish is exactly what we needed to keep moving up in the championship.”
